Back in January 2012 I had a ZP90 modified by a company in Doncaster, it consisted of a Level 2 upgrade consisting of an external linear power supply a re-clock and a few other bits. It did sound better when used with a older MF DAC that I had at the time, however later I changed to a Rega DAC and as an experiment I tried it with my brothers standard Sonos to find no difference. My conclusion at the time was that modern DACs that re-clock the digital signal like the Rega just need a competent source. Due to a heat problem (ran very warm, to warm to touch comfortably) I started to question the build quality of the PSU and it's capacitor durability and sold the modified Sonos on.
My current Sonos also has an external linear PSU this time made by a company in Leeds. This time however when compared to my brothers standard Sonos also using a Rega DAC and my Majestic DAC there is a noticeable difference, it's not immediately noticeable but there seams to be more space to the performance and instrument decay detail is increased. It also shows the big gap between a Rega DAC and Majestic.

Hi Gary,
Interesting. It'll have to wait for now though. Had to send the loan amps back to Jon today. Plugged my old kit in last night and tried it out. Beth Gibbons now sounds like she's sitting in the corner of the room with a blanket over her head.

Just hope my new stuff turns up soon. Apparently people at GSP are on holiday! How dare they!

I have one of these, and it works extremely well.
The chap who designed and builds these is a good friend.

I'm just wondering if you, or anyone else, can tell me what I can expect from these power supplies on my SqueezeboxTouch. Do they come with a sale or return guarantee? I would also welcome any suggestions about any other power supplies that people may have tried and can recommend.

My Touch sounds more substantial with tighter bass and I can hear more of the ambience on some recordings. I replaced the original PSU with my DIY one some time after installing the EDO and Touch Toolkit software and thought the level of improvement was comparable.

Can anyone else share their experiences to help Phil with this, please?

The Squeezebox Touch sounds passable with the stock supply, but with a decent linear PSU it becomes a very capable music player.
And that's using the analogue outputs.

I use a Squeezebox Touch as a transport into A N Other DAC, and I can hear the differences between using the stock PSU and the linear PSU - the linear wins out every time.

I don't really do all the flowery audiophile descriptive stuff, but a decent linear PSU makes the sound more substantial.

I also use the linear PSU to power my EMU0404 USB  recording interface, and the noise floor of the recordings I make becomes audibly lower.
The amount of low level detailing has increased, and the dynamic range of the recordings is increased.

Some say it's all just 0s and 1s.
I disagree.

With regard to trying stuff out I believe that distance selling regulations are very much in force.

The Squeezebox Touch in my main system uses a Mark Grant Squeezebox Touch Linear Power Supply + the Advanced Digital Output app =>Lautaus coax digital =>Majestic DAC. Music quality with FLAC files into the same DAC sounds slightly superior to the CD transport and source material is almost indistinguishable from vinyl where I own the same recordings.

It is quite a long time since I added this to my system and it was after purchasing the Majestic but I do recall being very happy with the improvements it brought. Combined with the Majestic, music has none of the sharp edged harshness often associated with a digital source and I have no desire to upgrade any further.

(The PSU is housed in a substantial non-metallic box, in a similar fashion to the GSP PSU1.)
