Spatia cabling is my final requirement but until I have settled on cable length and driver-side terminations, I have put off the investment.

Indeed. It is best to have the final measurements before ordering Measure twice and cut once as the saying goes.
My speaker cables are very short (about 300 mm) because I have the Propius amps very close to the left and right floor standing speakers. I made a four way plait with Spatia hookup wire and connected one pair to each plug. For bi-wire I fitted two red and two black at the speaker end. The Magnepan terminals are at floor level which helps.

My Lautus-R3 cables from Majestic are 1.5m long so if I eventually mount the Proprius in the speaker enclosures, I would need very short Spatia connections. Although if I have the amps with the speakers, the power cables are less tidy. But if I have two Proprius on each side for bi-amping a pair of drivers, there are two signal cables so it's already messy. An extra two power cables won't make much difference, especially if it was all mounted on a monitor-arm for freedom of positioning.

Back to my Magneplanars... They have a steel panel at the front with vertical lines of holes between the fixed magnets. Just behind them is a stretched mylar film with parallel aluminium (light weight) wires that the amplifier current runs through causing the mylar to move back and forth. This photo is from rear and shows the mylar with the wires glued to it (or 'laminated'). The ends go to the terminals at the top. In this early Magnepan the two sections are wired in series and the crossover elements provide a bypass for the full range signal with the inductor in parallel with the thin treble wiring on the left and capacitor in parallel with the wires on the large bass/mid panel. ![]() Edited by Fatmangolf - 06 Jul 2023 at 8:41pm |

This photo shows the recovered SMGa's from the front so you can see light coming through the vertical lines of holes mentioned above. To avoid long term UV damage I have been dropping the manufacturer's protective sacks over the SMGa's when not in use. ![]() That was after, below you can see the original cloth draped over the recovered SMGa. Note the heavy texture and remember this is after I washed out 36 years of grime. ![]() Edited by Fatmangolf - 06 Jul 2023 at 8:42pm |

I made the new covers or 'socks' by buying some acoustically transparent cloth, turning it inside out and machine sewing seams top and side. Turn it the right way round and slide it over the speaker panel which has grooves cut into the mdf edges. Now the terminals and crossover... ![]() You can see the four terminals at the top, just under the tea towel I used to protect the mylar and laminated thin wires from the hot solder. The gold coloured panel has the original terminals which I contact cleaned and the fuse designed to protect the tweeter's thinner wire. I replaced the original red, blue, and black wires above with Spatia hookup wire and ran similar length wires out to the newish capacitor I fitted instead of the small original component...

This is the after photo seen from the other direction, hence you see the plain aluminium of the gold painted panel. Note the coloured heatshrink (red, blue, black) to distinguish the new Spata wiring. I know I can easily bypass the fuse and 15 ohm resistor by resoldering the black wire on the left of the photo to the terminal with the blue wire. Edit: another option is to fit an attenuating resistor of 1 or 2 ohms in place of the fuse. This would reduce the higher frequencies and is a feature in many of the later Magnepan models. I would do this by burning out a spare fuse then solder a watt resistor to the fuse's metal caps, carefully so they still fit into the fuseholder.
