For completeness here is the right channel with the LF and HF wires in the same places. ![]() I inserted 1 ohm resistance (actually two of 0.5 ohms) in series with the HF as it was about 2dB louder than the left. You'll see that I just moved the inductor and input wires from tag 4 to tag 1 and fitted the resistors between those tags. |

The HF resistor came about when I used REW to measure my SMGa's for the first time. I read somewhere that panel speakers were hard to measure so I hadn't tried until now. Perhaps it was true for simple SPL readings but they were fine with the programmes I tried. I could see the difference in a selection of mic positions. Tighter instrument positioning after so I am glad I did this.
Today I ran L/R sweeps with the microphone where my head would be then for half a dozen places nearby. I had REW generate an average response for the left readings and the right respectively, took each into the EQ module and generated filters for my house curve. I used REW"s parametric filters in Roon, manually input for each channel as a procedural equaliser. I am happy with the adjusted sound. Another time I'll try an impulse file as a convolution filter.

Following a very good tutorial on YouTube I prepared a convolution filter using REW (Room Equalisation Wizard). I went through the steps twice then imported minimum phase versions for different sample rates into Roon. It's good to learn something new and hear the results.

A slightly fuller explanation is that I measured the effect of my hifi speakers and room on the sound where I sit then used the software to model this digitally I reversed the effect and exported it as an impulse response. The convolution process in Roon combines that with the music input to give a new signal that sounds much clearer and more even when played through my hifi in my room.

Thank you. Mine are flat panel speakers, essentially MDF pieces 48 inches by 18 inches with a large hole for the membrane. I share your appreciation of Ash's clever use of open cardboard boxes with full range speakers.

I am giving my Maggies a quick spin playing some LP's and am impressed by the sound. Plenty of detail and an airy sound. They've been standing in front of my record shelves so I was going to unscrew the legs and slide them into a gap between cabinets. Now I may keep them out a bit longer!

Adding subwoofers has improved the sound even though they are slightly too loud as they are aligned to my LS50's.
