Except for the D7000 I have listened to all the phones on your shortlist. Of the 5 my favorite is the D5000 followed by the W1000. If I had the cash I would go for the D7000.

Cool. I have to admit, the D5s are my favourite of the lot. After reading quite a few comparisons it appears the D7's performance aren't worth the extra money (although as always that is relative to each person). In my opinion, you're paying extra mainly for the aesthetics. I think if the D5s were released at a higher price (considering the performance-per-pound/dollar, etc), then the D7s wouldn't seem so... Overpriced (although they are the equivalent of the GS1000s but much less anyway)?

It's kind of like Graham, but without his common sense: The Novo was released and basically made the Solo pointless (in the value stakes) so to justify it, Graham overhauled the Solo and made it worthwhile again. Denon just seem to have missed out on the justification part (IMO anyway). Or maybe I don't what I'm talking about (and should just demo both)? No surprise there then... Smile

The thing is though Miguel, you've put a terrible idea in my head that I can't shake. I want to contact markl... Big%20smile But should I get a standard D5, use it, love it, and then get another set for Lawton Audio to perfect? How else will I be able to tell the difference? But then I will go past my ideal aim of having just 2 pairs of 'phones (for static useage). What do you think, considering I can get standard D5s for around £300 ($430)?

Evil ideas are good! Evil%20Smile In my case it was simple I borrowed a MarkL modded D5000 and compared them w/ an unmodded unit. You being across the pond it would not be feasible.

You could follow the instructions he posted in Head Fi, they are step by step w/ pictures. That way you would save about $200. Good luck.
