stoneaudio.co.uk is still showing HD250 in stock at £166.
I was chatting with a friend tonight (having tried his Opera Consonance Cyber 30, tubes, 3.5w per channel... blasphemy I know but the power made it sound great... with AKG701 (sorry Graham), RS-1, HD650 & HD250 - & discussing the 'if I could only keep 1 can'. Whilst HD650 has come back into being a contender, HD250 just has the extension and honesty to handle most everything and its closed (!). Good luck. |

Nice bedspread Miguel. Oh look, there's some Denons there...
Thanks James. Unfortunately, they show stock but they have none. They're only the 6th company who've done that to me!
I am currently waiting on a company from USA to get a delivery quote (not looking forward to Customs!). They claim to have stock, although they cancelled my order due to "international delivery costing too much"... Interesting as I had already paid for them, including the delivery!
I got to test the Novo for a bit last night, although not with the Cusat50s yet (waiting for them to be made). I may not have a lot of experience compared to most of you, but it is AMAZING! Even with my puny Grados the quality is great, although I think it highlights the deficiencies of the SR80s. It sounded like it wanted to seperate everything, but my bins were by far the limiting factor. Not bad considering it was with a £5, 5* cable...
I tried it with The Dark Night & Crouching Tiger OSTs, some Ray LaMontagne songs and some dance music. It excelled at everything. Graham, you are a genius!!
I will be getting my Shures back today (cable repair) so I look forward to trying them out on it... Well, it will be a laugh at least.

Glad you are liking the Novo - told you you would!
We lose a lot of "sales" because we don't pretend to have stock that we can deliver yesterday at bargain prices that are less than trade with a free widget etc... We try to go for good products (eg GS), be nice to folks when they call us up, give the best customer service we can in terms of delivery etc (against all odds sometimes when we are relying on distributors!) and generally look after our customers so they come back next time. We don't have that yacht on order doing it that way but at least we sleep well at night knowing we did the job right.
That concludes my rant on "other dealers". What is everyone else's experience of the retail buying experience?

glad you're enjoying the Novo . Your words take me back to my first experience with the Solo. Magic!
1 other thought on the HD250 if your US transaction doesn't come off... All the components are replaceable (!) so you could assemble your own... though not the cheapest route I *think* the capsules includes the housing (£142!!) Capsules Headband (£21.75) Headband Cable Personally I'd go for HD650 cable Cable Earpads Hmmmm, this guy says he has the foam but not the earpads themselves. I did manage to get a pair from Harrowaudio.com only a few weeks ago. Suspect other suppliers may have them. Also, HD250 is very similiar to other older Senn models, e.g. Ovation, so the pads for another can may well work... may even be better if they're velour (tho' may lose the seal) Earpads Anyway... just in case this is helpful

The IEM test is complete and a complete joke! I was shocked at how bad the Shures where! I've heard that the highs are clipped on them, but there was near enough NONE of the top end. On the flip side with a little tweaking of the EQ, the Shures sound "great" and have upper frequencies when plugged in to an MP3 player.
Anyhoo, the USA HD250ii deal fell through because (yet again) the dealer realised they're discontinued so can't get any stock.
I saw that Graham had mentioned the Audio Technica ATH-A900s in another post... Are these the best option around for my requirements? And how do the HD25 or HD280 compare to the 250ii? I'm only listing Sennys because I'm not so familiar with the equivalents from other companies...
For my hifi listening, I have a shortlist of the ATH-W1000s or the D5000s (with a demo on the HD650s to see how they stack up). Due to the replies, I can only assume there are no other alternatives to add to the list of demos to try...?
Also, does anyone know if Graham is away? I really was hoping to get a reply from him, at least for the "HD250" options in case he has another, still available option...

HD280 is nowhere near the same class & has coloured/recessed mid bass.
I'm a big fan of HD25 but its a different beast. I'm interested in A900 but apparently has a distinct sound flavour... Do you need Closed? If not, you could get HD600 at a decent price. James |

I prefer the sound of the HD600 over the HD650, I find the HD650 has way to much bass. In comparison I prefer the W1000, RS1, and the D5000 over the HD600.
