So here it goes.
The definitive 20 Albums you would bring to a desert island to make due with for possibly the rest of your life. I chose to make it 20 albums as the list stays poignant enough but still not too hard to make, i hope.
Double albums count as one.

The Beatles -           Abbey Road
                                Sgt. Pepper
Pink Floyd -              Dark Side of the Moon
Yes -                        Fragile
                                Close to the Edge
Genesis -                 Foxtrot
                                Selling England By The Pound
Bob Dylan -              Highway 61 Revisited
Beach Boys -            Pet Sounds
Roxy Music -             Country Life
Van Morrison -         Astral Weeks
                                Moondance
Miles Davis -             Kind of Blue
Sam Cooke -            Night Beat
Jethro Tull -              Aqualung
                                Thick as a Brick
Rolling Stones -        Sticky Fingers
Elton John -              Tumbleweed Connection
Nick Drake -              Five Leaves Left
                                 Bryter Layter

Surely I've forgotten about an album or two that I would have put on here but that's inevitable I guess. Now I'm looking forward to reading all of your lists! Big smile

Cheers!
Johan

Thanks for making this happen Suede! My 20 albums:

Beatles - Revolver, Abbey Road
Who - Live at Leeds, Who's Next
Kate Bush - Aerial, Hounds of Love
Beats International - Let them eat Bingo
Burning Spear - Garvey's Ghost
Radiohead - The Bends
The The - Mindbomb
Smiths - The Queen is dead
Sex Pistols - Never mind the bollocks
Michael Hedges - Aerial boundaries
Paul Weller - Wild Wood
B.B. King compilation
Stevie Wonder - Talking Book
Throwing Muses - The Real Ramona
Ry Cooder - Paris Texas
Small Faces - Ogden's Nut Gone Flake

I used two criteria: what have I listened to over the last few years and what would I miss.

Thanks for sharing your list Jon. Reminds me I haven't listened to Ogden's Nut Gone Flake for a good while Shocked, it's great fun! Good point to add your criteria too! Mine was mainly albums I never seem to tire of even though I've heard them so many times I know them like the back of my hand.

Here's my list (in no particular order):

Rolling Stones - Sticky Fingers
Jethro Tull - Aqualung
J. J. Cale - Naturally
Caravan - If I Could Do It Again I'd Do It All Over You
Dire Straits - Dire Straits
John Mayall - The World Of (Mono) + The Beano album
Gerry Rafferty - I'd take every single one of his albums! However if I had to limit the selection to just 3, I'd pick City To City, Sleepwalking, and Another World
Gary Moore - Blues For Greeny
Joe Bonamassa - Live From Nowhere In Particular
Mark Knopfler - Shangri-La
Paul Rodgers - Muddy Water Blues
Holst - The Planets

My criteria are the same as Suede's - I've heard them all countless times before, yet I can happily listen to them again and again. For me, they would constitute essential desert island listening.

You've got me re-thinking my list Hotmog, especially the John Mayall Beano album! Good choice. I nearly put Muddy Waters at Newport in my list, the AAM Brandenburg Concertos, and Back in Black... I sense another mix tape list coming.

For what it's worth, here's 20 I could happily live with, without the need for any more:

Aimee Mann - Bachelor No 2.
Rush - Moving Pictures
David Bowie - Hunky Dory
Coldplay - A Rush Of Blood To The Head
Bob Dylan - Biograph
Mike Oldfield - Tubular Bells
Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here
Pink Floyd - The Wall
Steely Dan - Showbiz Kids (Best Of)
Beatles - Rubber Soul
Beatles - 67-70
Kate Bush - Hounds Of Love
Eric Clapton - Unplugged
Fleetwood Mac - Rumours
Fleetwood Mac - Tusk
Lindsey Buckingham - Gift Of Screws
Randy Newman - Land Of Dreams
Vangelis - China
Neil Young - Freedom
Keb Mo - Martin Scorsese Presents The Blues

Note: probably will be a different 20 next week.
