my headphones are sennheiser hd650
I hear them connected to a portable dac / amp portable
I would get the best from them
the rest of the chain for headphone listening is: foobar pc/win7 hrt music streamer2 +

I can buy graham slee novo or solo for a good price
I know that sennheiser go well with these 2 amps

I would like to know if the price difference is worth the solo or for this headphones is the novo enough

could you describe me the sound signature,
the characteristic of the two amplifiers and maybe, who is lucky enough to be able to do a comparative

Thanks, goodbye,
Daniele

Hi Daniele,

Both the Novo or Solo will sound great with your 650s.

I've only used my 650s with a Solo SRGII so can't comment on their performance with a Novo, but I would say that the 650s deserve the best amp you can afford. The fact you're asking about the Solo and Novo means you're definitely in the right place! Other headphone amps may be available but none, in my opinion can match Graham's units.

The 650s are not the easiest pair to drive, but, with the Solo I have, the bass is extended but well controlled and the midrange/treble very smooth and natural sounding. As a set you could say the 650s can be a little polite and not as exciting as the 600s, but the Solo drives these with an ease on all types of music and lets you right into the heart of the music.

I'm sure users of the Novo will comment soon, and there will be some who have used both.

All the best ..

Hello & welcome Smile.

As many many people will say, the HD650s will 'scale well' with higher performing amps.

If you find your taste for cans broadening... the UL will give you the most options to pair with replacement/complementary cans e.g. AKG701, DT48 etc.

Best

ok
First, thanks for the quick responses

i'm sure U/L would be the best match, but a bit expansive for me..
i have the opportunities to get a solo or a novo for a great price
so i have just to decide between these
if better
save or "invest" that 100 eur more
...

Daniele, both inputs should have the same level. What components are using with these inputs?

If you swap the components over to the other input does the level change with the swap, or is the same input always quieter?

i mean two rca input in the back of the amplifier
so they are connected trought rca cables from a dac or cd player
from this site i read:
The Solo SRG II is designed to work, and self adjust, on two different input levels (in either switch position): 1] professional (unbalanced) 0dB: 775mV, where its output is to drive 600 Ohm headphones for certain studio applications, and 2] domestic -10dB (DIN): 250mV, where its output is to drive 32 Ohm headphones. In either mode of use it will return virtually identical output power as well as similar sound pressure levels with identical headphone sensitivities
