Hello
Have just ordered a solo SRG for my Naim NAC282 as I couldn't afford Naims version (+ power supply) and stumbled across this forum.
Can any one help with regard to headphones below £500 which would work well with this set up?
Looking at Grado RS2/AKG K701/Senn HD650/Denon AHD-5000 and am having difficulty auditioning them due to work commitments. I have Wilson Benesch Arcs as main speaker so emphasis is on an open detailed sound.
Listen mainly to rock/pop/indie
Thanks

I have found that both the Novo and Solo have great affinity for the Ultrasone HFI-780 and the Denon's (AH-D2000 or the AH-D5000). The RS-1 sounds great as well.

Endellion, what cans have you tried before? What did you like? Preference is hugely hugely subjective. You really must try for yourself.
Miguel does not like Sennheiser and I find myself strangely drawn back to 2006 Solo + modded HD25 as default setup (which does not stand up at all to textbook analytical scrutiny) having acquired AKG701/RS-1/DT770-80 which all have qualities that I appreciate along the lines of what you will read here and elsewhere but, with the Solo, hold no lasting love for me. Now try a serious SET valve amp with RS-1 and things may change
I think Senn 650/250 work well with the Solo but poorly mastered recordings are generally unpleasant (hence my 'retreat to HD25-1). Also, have you considered AT? AD2000? Graham himself has good things to say about A900 but 'open' sound? Also Beyer DT880? Miguel, I thought you had love for the K701/Solo as well? Best James |

Yes the K701 and K501 sound very good out of the Solo/Novo. For Rock/Pop I would select a Grado hands now, normally I would add w/ tubes but the Solo is an special SS amp that allows the RS-1 to sound great. Most other SS amp do not fare as well.
