I have owned the D2000 and D5000, both in stock version and highly modded by Mark Lawton. This mods include re-cable, new wood larger wood cups and real leather pads. No hiss.

Maybe my ears aren't what they once were, or maybe it's because I have HD650s rather than the Denons. But the the fact is, I sent my Solo to Graham to have the Ultra-Linear upgrade done just over 9 months ago. Now it's been switched on continuously since, so it should be fully burned in by now, but however hard I try I still can't hear any hiss.

Don't get me wrong - I absolutely love the U/L sound - but I'm worried I'm missing out. Should I sent it back as faulty? Wink LOL

fitted my UL diy kit tonight.
i must say it was easy.
very quick turn around from order, too.
it would have been here 5 days ago, but nobody was here to sign for it.

out of the box and using my denons there is noticable hiss.
having said that, once music is playing, you cant tell its there.
the hiss is greatly reduced if i use my hd280 (64ohm).
but i dont like the 280 for music.
the hiss disappears completely if i use the denons with my 120 ohm adapter.

will this alter with burn in? i will have to wait and see (i mean hear!)

what i have noticed, immediately is much warmer and deeper bass.
looking forward to see how it develops over the coming days and weeks.
but i will say that i am already extremely happy with my purchase, which i think offers fantastic value for money.
nice one Graham and Co Clap

Are you using the switching psu or the PSU1? If the switching psu ground the Solo UL using the post on the back.

The perceived volume should increase as it runs in therefore relegating the "endearing valve hiss" further back.

Such a small noise level (-78dB) is not normally noticeable on speaker systems and with some headphones, but it just goes to show how sensitive some headphones are.
That none should be able to park up and enjoy the view without a smartphone and the knowledge in how to use apps
