Hello,

I am frequently reading this forum although haven't posted any questions.

I am enjoying my Denon D5000 headphones very much (bought in 2009) connected to an iMac via an Apogee Duet DAC.

My next step is to buy a headphone amp. I am pretty much decided to buy a GS Solo, but am a bit lost with the versions available. So my question is:

Has anyone tried the Solo SRG II and the Ultra-linear with the D5000? If so, which one would you recommend me?

Many thanks in advance.

Love how my Denon sounds out of the SRGII, a great match.

Thanks a lot mrarroyo! I will bear this in mind!

Anyone else in the forum who has tried the Solo Ultra-Linear Denon D5000 combination?

Thanks

I would be quite curious to hear the answer myself, since I have a Denon D7000 with a Solo SRG and once in a while I think about getting the upgrade... Smile

Hi everyone

I have been using my Solo UL with my D5000 and am very pleased with the sound.

Simon. I don't see the hiss as a problem. There is some. It's not a truly "inky black backdrop" it has this "morning dew" resting on that "backdrop" (Oh how I love these fine art descriptions...) only if you crank the volume up and listen for it.

It may be more apparent on some headphones but it's less apparent on others. IMO Grado will "probably" show it up most but there is a review available using Grado PS1000, and other aspects of performance more than made up for it.

It does not detract from those end of album moments where you pick out on headphones what you never picked out on speakers, like the last three words on "All-night Laundrymat Blues" by Joe Walsh that I can't repeat here....

Compared with phono stage hiss, the UL has considerably less.

But the most endearing quality is this: I set out to recreate the valve sound using solid-state, not by trial and error, but by recreating the same conditions of valve amp open-loop gain, input linearity and valve amp open-loop bandwidth. So, to me, it was hardly any surprise that I also ended up with valve hiss. Not quite as much hiss as valves but yes I heard it, and it reassured me that I had the valve sound (which made me feel right happy Big%20smile).
That none should be able to park up and enjoy the view without a smartphone and the knowledge in how to use apps
