And perhaps preventing potential support nightmares for windows drivers I suppose.

Exactly that. Boldly going forward, numerous chip solution manufacturers, product manufacturers and  users find lots more problems requiring a workaround. So why create possible trouble for the user? We don't have a support desk and a toll free number, and that's what we'd need to sort out the inevitable trouble chasing specifications would bring. In fact, the latest Texas Instruments PCM2902, the C version, has exactly that problem when used as an ADC with some versions of Windows, producing a not so nice 1kHz tone over recordings. The solution is for the product manufacturer to supply a complicated set of instructions for the user to tell the PC what to do! And why? Simply because Texas tried to keep up with USB... version 2.0 to be exact. USB version 1 works perfectly OK I'm told. Could that be why you can't get the PCM2902C from RS or Farnell? They only stock the PCM2902B.

No, SE and balanced.

To be fair, I have a USB dac with the TE7022L in it and there are no driver issues at all, plug-n-play for XP, Vista, and Linux. The first two even played 96/24 without any further adjustments. Mac is claimed to be similar.

(Doesn't help the minimum order quantity problem though).

OK, the I accept some won't like USB at 48/16, but it has optical at 96/24 which is suitable for Playstation 3 and Xbox, which I'm told people use as media servers. Thumbs Up

Plus the good old coaxial at 192/24.

As I told above: sound quality should be a main concern. USB input is just a technical nuance.
If someone needs functional USB for 24/96 and higher "density" formats, always can use USB/SPDIF converter like Musical Fidelity V-Link, Halide Bridge, HiFace, Audiophilleo,  something from Stello or Bel Canto or even expensive Off-Ramp from Empirical Audio.
There is something for each pocket... :)

Agreed also.

Graham is correct concerning the optical and coax outputs and they provide a less altered signal. The support requirements for USB at the higher rates would not be worth the hassle, especially if this is the first product of its type for the company in my opinion.

Il Dottore,

“USB input is just a technical nuance”,  nicely put.

Currently I use the Dac Magic. Big improvement over the CD player's dac, but I'm looking forward to the "Big Dac" which will sound like the Reflex M according to Graham.

Graham, will you include USB?

Thanks and "Happy New Year" Beer
