Thanks for your feedback.
I am already very happy with the Voyager, so it can only improve with time.
About the headphones, I'm waiting for an answer from the website where I purchased them to ship them back and exercrise the 14 days cancellation right.

But I have yet to decide what to do next with my idea of using fullsize headphones with the Voyager. Is it a good idea or is the Voyager more targeted to drive street/on the go headphones? Which fullsize headphones work well with the Voyager (I know I should have asked the question before...)

Cheers,

The K701's I have here took months to "burn-in"

The Sennheiser HD250's we use took 2 months to burn-in.

The Audio Technica A900 took a good month.

The Audio Technica A700 took about 3 months.

The Sennheiser HD600 are still burning in because I don't use them much.

Some say it's all in the mind - I think they need a shrink!

Ok, I get it, I hope I don't need one ;-)
You're suggesting I keep the Shure and let them burn in... I might have no option if I can't return them, and it might be a good test.

From experience, I also believe that sound evolves as electronic appliances age. I own a Quad system since 2003 and it also that required burn in. But I have never had the situation where I actually disliked the sound when I first heard the system (which is the case here with SRH840 and Voyager).

So, although sound evolves and improves during burn in, I have difficulty in believing this burn in will change the way a system sounds into something I would actually love when I totally disliked it when I first heard it.  This is what makes me hesitate to keep the SRH840.

Cheers,

how long did ur akg k701 s take? thats assuming u dont use 702s... still trying to figure out the difference, though I'm sure there must be one..

p.s I hope you are feeling a little better. long hours and poor sleeping/eating patterns are not good for the kidneys! I also am an unfortunate simpsonesque yellow tinge.. 3 years of working late shifts paired with nights preceded by years of partying and/or all nighters fiddling with recording stuff (poor quality amateur bedroom type sadly)

I remember hating the sound of the HD250 when I first bought them - many head-fiers also hated them so much that they became amongst the worst. However, because my background was in studio work and knowing the HD250 was used in specialist audio recording and broadcast work, I persevered and to my delight they opened out beautifully.

It is similar with our Era Gold V phono stage (in fact one or two others). It can sound just OK for a hour or two from new, then goes very bad, but then picks up and after three weeks it floors everything else (so says reviewers and customers alike).

Therefore we have to consider if we can afford to take such risks. Because some of my purchases are for the company, then its the companies loss if a purchase does not result in something good. Now if it were a personal purchase things would be different because I am after all just the same as many of my customers (I believe the word is "skint") after the monthly pay check is eroded by mortgage, energy bills, etc. So I fully understand your plight.

All the headphones I have had the "pleasure" of trying seemed to benefit from heat treatment - sticking them above a radiator for a few days - and the K701's responded to that the most IMO.

Yes the "mushroom" treatment doesn't half damage the system. My dad worked 12/7 underground (NCB) for many years and suffered in a similar way. It is society that is to blame (no this isn't a Monty Python sketch) and that's why I am constantly trying to bash it...

As Jon Anderson (Yes) says in similar words - life is just great as it is and we should not change it! That is OK for him and is because of his riches (OK he may have worked for it), but like all who are rich, they stop seeing those who they ride on.

Although I am not a Christian (I am a floating God'ist depending on my pain thresholdWink), I do understand the Bible more than most and there's a bit that describes the heirachy "and the studs (eyes) in the wheels are the people" I believe it says somewhere.Angry

you "reactionary old git", I love your humour Wink

I have had the opportunity to listen to a Grado 325is... and IT ROCKS ! And they were new, i.e. not burnt in, so it can only get even better with time.  The voyager sounds absolutely fantastic for such a small piece (and light) piece of electronic!
It's my first heaphone amp and I am even thinking whether it would be necessary to get another headphone amp for home use, the Voyager does the job pretty well. I've connected the Voyager to my Quad 99 preamp's tape output and I really love what I'm hearing Big%20smile of course, compared to what I was used to from a headphone.

So, it's a no go for the SRH840 as far as I am concerned, and they are going back to where they came from.Thumbs%20Down
