Might I suggest a simple test that requires changing nothing.

Play some of the music that exhibits the problem described, whilst it is playing, move around the room while listening to see if it is worse at some places than at others.

If this is the case, that it is worse at some places and not at others, then you have room generated reflection problems and repositioning the speakers may alleviate the problem, at least WRT the normal listening position.

It may also suggest the use of absorbtive panels, bass traps etc to help tame reflections.

Particularly if your speakers are rear ported, then those glass doors behind them will not be helping, even if they are not, I would still be trying them further into the room, at least to the edge of the carpet and from the apparent distance of your listening position I think I would also reduce the "toe-in".

I would not have thought central heating necessary in Haiti.   Live and learn eh Wink

1] I would not use floor standers in a room like that. The bass pressure wave hasn't a chance of developing before being refracted. I'd have gone for some bookshelf's on tall stands to put them at ear level when seated. I would also pull them forward from the corner (at the right end) and away from the wall by 1 metre, and angle them inward at 45 degrees.

2] I would not stand anything on a speaker as the pressure wave is designed to wrap round the edges to give the required or designed response.

3] Try changing the direction of the interconnects... one by one... listen to tracks like Fleetwood Mac Tusk or Genesis Los Endos which should give a completely different spatial effect if the interconnects benefit from being one way round or the other.

I advise that any mods meet with domestic harmony...

Nice room!

That none should be able to park up and enjoy the view without a smartphone and the knowledge in how to use apps

@Cyreg, tg, and Graham: Many thanks for all your interesting suggestions.
I will do some experimenting in the next few days and report back.
