I've been taking a break from the UL for a few months (it remained switched on) and have just plugged in again... hd650s (foamed and de-foamed), k701s and rs-1s (with new foams) sound significantly better than I remember from before. Is it possible that there is a difference between 6 months' and 12 months' burn in? I know it sounds ridiculous. The RS-1s are enjoyable but still not at their optimum (thanks Graham for your explanation above re Grado and the ULDE). I do feel slightly smug (though probably unwarranted) for having indirectly prompted Graham to go back to what he thought were faulty SR60s and go from there on what seems to be a fruitful journey... .I'd be very interested in your thoughts once your upgrade is in place and reasonably warmed up (I am a bit impatient!!). Best James

Well, haveing completed the upgrade last Saturday I have to say the UL Diamond is a very nice unit indeed and does compliment my Grado RS-1's very nicely. It is almost impossible to do an objective A/B with the UL as this 'card' is now in the box that the UL Diamond arrived in. However, I'm very happy with the Diamond edition after 8 days of burn in and it really is a musical combination with the RS-1's.

Three weeks in now and I have to say the Ultra Linear Diamond edition really suits my Grado RS1's. I've always liked my Grado's for their 'exciting' presentation and the UL Diamond edition retains this but has removed the rough edges that exhibited itself occassionally with these 'phones and the music sounds, err, very musical.....

I hope this isn't answered elsewhere, but, would I hear an improvement with my Denon D5000 cans by updating my solo UL to the UL diamond?
