The Solo keeps maturing nicely...

I haven't been able to listen to music for the past 2 days, as I have been very ill with the flu.

Now I am listening to Einstuerzende Neubauten ("Silence is sexy"), and I feel that bass has  VASTLY improved again. Now it's absolutely perfect for my taste.

What I have also noticed, is that I am placing the volume pot at a lower position than before: on the first days I often went to 11-12. Now I am rarely going beyond the 10 o' clock position to get a satisfying sound pressure...

Ok, after 11 days I can proclaim a verdict: I love the SOLO!!!

Even the busiest and most intricate prog metal songs shine on this amp: its speed and clarity are truly a bliss to my ears, I am enjoying this kind of music so much more.

No fatiguing highs anymore, no brightness: just great clarity, and after this burning in period the bass is just... right. Not too much, not too little. And most important, not flabby: dry and powerful, on the other hand. Exactly the correct amount.

It makes even a relatively humble headphone like the HD-595 give its best (no veil at all), so I look forward to when I will be able to affors something better in future (maybe the HD-800 one day? Although I certainly am also intrigued by the Denon AH-D7000)...

Well good to read you are so happy w/ the Solo SRG. One day I will have one.

The Denon AH-D7000 is on my sight, however I already own the AH-D5000 modded by MarkL w/ a set of Australian Bubinga cups and it is hard for me to spend the money on the  AH-D7000. But rest assure that if it is an improvement over the AH-D5000 (reviewers indicat it is) you will be very happy with the AH-D7000.

The only thing that worries me is the leather pads... Aren't they a bit too hot in summer? Weather is hot and humid in northern Italy in summer, and I don't like air conditioning...

Good news and bad news! If you are talking about the D2000 and D5000 the pads are not covered in leather but in pleader (euphemism for plastic to make it sound expensive Smile). But in reality they are very comfortable.

I have read that the pads on the D7000 are also pleather. Maybe someone who has them can provide more info.

BTW, it is very hot in Miami Beach in the Summer. Although I do like/use A/C. Wink

Fascinating

I too have just joined the Solo club (you see what I did there)

Day one, head in hands.  No bass, painful treble. - going in bin
Day two - bass coming on stream, mid-range beautiful, treble improving but not good
Day three - ah-ha  Difficult to stop listening - entire frequency range sounding more like my expectations

Using Grado Sr-80
...... and that's my opinion, take or leave it

Thank you for your patience.

Like a guided misile the electronics of any high performance audio circuit corrects its course on its way to its target of fulfilling sound.

Unfortunately, try as I do, it is impossible to make any high performer sound as good on day one as it will on day n.

Also, a lot will depend on how it travelled to its destination, Cargo holds in aircraft simply don't have the creature comforts provided for a human cargo. Temperatures can dip well below what we consider comfortable and electronics having a thermal characteristic can mean what lands in one country can initially sound a lot different to the other guy's in another country.

Burn-in is something which takes place at different rates for different components. A transformer is considered burnt-in by world certification agencies at 72 hours, whereas metal-film resistors can take as much as 6 months to fully burn-in. The metal-film resistor establishes the resolution in a circuit that uses them (like ours do) and that lack of initial resolution can favour one set of frequencies above another. It is the bass that often suffers this aclimatization. It is therefore quite possible for the circuit to "cycle" a number of times over say a three week period which seems common and is usually the point at which it is very difficult to discern any further adjustment, although, I assure you, it is still taking place.
That none should be able to park up and enjoy the view without a smartphone and the knowledge in how to use apps
