That list brings a smile and a nod to my face. There are many examples of first-rate songwriting, many examples of superb music, many examples of masterful musicianship in the performances, and many examples of recordings of immersive audiophile quality.

And more than a few where all four qualities are present!

Just bought a near mint CD off Discogs. Hope it rips well.

I just love Freudiana! Funny You Should Say That and Sects Therapy (with Frankie Howerd), especially, are great tracks! Been trying to find a good vinyl copy from the UK for a long time . . .

How many here still play multichannel SACD/DVD-Audio discs? I noticed Jon mentioned he still does.

I sold all my SACDs and DVD-Audio/DTS surround discs as I never played them in "surround", just the stereo rips. A good stereo setup can recreate depth information for classical music, and really who needs the gimmicky surround effects for other genres? Plus the fact that listening properly in surround roots you the spot. It was interesting for sure, but just didn't seem worth it for me in the end.

The world has had the H2 capacitor clip for many years but now no longer. It is available to backorder with new stock arriving in >today's date plus one calendar year<, and as it's always today's date it might as well be a carrot - you know! A carrot on a stick - we're just being led on by donkeys.

It's exactly like the WM8741 farce. Edinburgh company's exit strategy was to sell out to Cirrus Logic. Cirrus Logic strategy was to blot out Wolfson's chips and sell more of their own. Neither make/made chips - they subbed it out to you know where - and Cirrus has no stock of its own. How long can you keep trading without anything to trade? China, meanwhile, keeps making lots and lots of digital audio interfaces that end up in a hi-fi store chain, sold under good old English brand names...

It is my belief that RS and Farnell are now owned by the "enemy" or it would seem that way as they have NO STOCK on a rolling forward basis, ever!

So who does that leave? I guess we can always count on the Americans? Except they're heading in exactly the same direction. Yes, I'm talking about Mouser and Digikey. By the looks of things the US mass news media want a civil war, and also hate the UK (have you heard what they've been saying about the Queen?), so it won't be far off before we've nothing to build with!

If ever things get better again, next time round there needs to be a law passed that stops money freaks owning companies, and companies are run by engineers! At the same time, politicians and journalists need to be sent to a penal colony!

If that Jon is me, yes I have an Onkyo udp-203 but very rarely play sacd or multichannel audio disks for similar reasons as yours Bob. I still have the disks but I like good stereo reproduction and it's 44k1 and 48k through my Majestic dac.
Jon

Open mind and ears whilst owning GSP Genera, Accession M, Accession MC, Elevator EXP, Solo ULDE, Proprius amps, Cusat50 cables, Lautus digital cable, Spatia cables and links, and a Majestic DAC.
