Hello all you good people,
Finally convinced myself I should buy a Solo Ultra Linear Diamond Edition. I can only hope it will offer me the edge above the Solo SRGII. (Headphone recommendations, anyone?) Both with PSU1, of course. I will let it stand and warm up a bit (few days) before starting to give it a good listen. I could of course give them both a comparative listen. They are both connected to the Majestic DAC. Budget (a certain Austrian brand) record player connected to Majestic via Gram Amp 2 SE. But what to do with my Solo SRGII? Jan. Hello Jan,
The latest black Sennheiser HD800S sound wonderful driven by a Solo ULDE. The HD540Ref are superb too - has Ash any left? |

Hello,
Thank you very much for your reply. I was indeed thinking about maybe getting one of the headphones in the 'HD800 line', some time in the future. My HD600 are nice, but possibly not up to standard when connected to Solo ULDE? How fare the Beyerdynamic DT800 together with the Solo ULDE, for that matter? Hi Jan.
Recommending headphones is difficult because their comfort also needs to be taken into account - as well as personal tastes in listening. I upgraded my SRGII with a ULDE board and PSU1, and used it for a long time with HD650s and Denon 7000s (hard to get h'phones much different than these two!). When I bought some Audeze LCD-2s the 650s went into my bedroom system with a Novo. (The Denons just gather dust . . anyone want to make me an offer on these?). I'd only change the LCD-2s for a better LCD model (the 4 looks nice, but the price! ). You really need to audition fully run-in sets of headphones with the ULDE to make a truly informed decision - if it's possible . . .

What I do know already, after a day of warming up a bit, is that the difference between the Solo SRGII and the Solo ULDE is noticable, especially when listening to my LPs. And I love it. (Is it a more coherent sound picture? A more holographic but still absolutely lifelike/natural effect?) I hope the sound will bloom even more after another few days and weeks of use/warming up.

That's bizarre Bob. At the Aylesbury Roadshow, I briefly listened to your LCD2, HD650 and D7000 headphones (alongside a HD540II and HD800 for reference). Out of your three, I thought the D7000 sounded the best. A bit of bass elevation but really clear and well balanced sound with an overall faithful tonality. Well built too, closed-back and I could enjoy using them. The LCD2 and HD650 both had an altered tonality and congested frequency reproduction in direct comparison with D7000 and my 540II. My 540II was bass-light compared to D7000. Well controlled low bass but lacking nonetheless. Can't believe your D7000 is gathering dust against your others, wow.

Proving Bob's point that recommending headphones is difficult & the need to audition.
