I have a Grado RS-1 (older one with the button) and a highly modified SR80 both sound superb out of the Solo SRGII or the UL. Personally I would keep the SRGII in production as a "mid price" option in your line up. Good luck!

Does this mean all new Solo UL's are the lower noise ones? Or maybe some of the old ones are still out in distribution! Maybe another reason to buy direct from Grham!

I must confess, when I got my Solo UL recently, at first I could hear a hum when the music was more subtle, but it did not bother me, however, bizarrely now it appears to have disappeared & the background is quiet. I don't know whether this is relating to the Solo UL burning in or properly warming up, but I am beginning to fear with Graham's reference to "the Younger Generation" being able to hear this, I am worried that I have suddenly fallen into an older generation category over the last few weeks
I'll be checking for grey hairs now, that is if it doesn't fall out

I am a Solo UL user, and have very board options of headphones from 25ohm Denon D7000 to the 600ohm Beyerdynamic T1; I have several models of each brand from Beyer, Denon, Sennheiser and Grado. I am very pleased to see there is further development on the exist Solo UL. Please let us know when the upgrade is available.

I am one of the early adopters of
Solo Ultra-Linear back in June 2010. Does the newly revised UL make a big difference compared to the original UL?

It basically reduces noise for users of high sensitivity headphones to around the lowest a design can go without losing the intended musicality. Therefore it is the equal in sound. I have an old pair of Grado SR60's which I also wanted it to drive better because I realise some owners may be starting out with such cans. I therefore "played around" with the output stage until I got the desired result. That's about it. I will get some ready to send to the loaner program organisers to enable UL users to assess if there is a worthwhile improvement. |
