Hi, I've read some info on this amp over at rockgrotto and headfi, but there's no update over at the Slee official website.
I assume with these new directives, that the 2008 Green version will shortly be replacing the 2007 model.
Is it possible to purchase a "Green" amp now? and if so what's the price, do I need to 'phone Slee themselves to place an order?
thanks very much
regards
Robert

Ultimately we think the Solo "green" will have to replace the original Solo headphone amplifier. This is not because we discovered a better Solo, but because we have had to change the Solo and make it comparable to the original, because of the wishes of the European Union. Such wishes are not going to be optional, but are so at this moment in time, and the exact timing when legislation makes the changes mandatory for all similar products, is not known. Unfortunately for us and the appreciation of music in general, it makes for an uncertain future. Therefore our plans are to offer, until the European Parliament makes its mind up, both versions of the Solo and let the customer decide which option is the better to go for.

However, we are not going to let this be a matter of guesswork. Both options will be fully described such that the customer can make an informed decision. But we are not of the bandwagon mentality - we are not opportunists looking for any excuse to make a fast buck! Our competitors have a far better grasp of opportunism - where we have a far better grasp on how to implement technology for greater musical enjoyment, as each customer finds, one after the other. Unlike our opportunist competitors whose products automatically sell in great quantity, we have to convert each and every customer one at a time because most people find it difficult to believe anyone can make products that truly perform music like ours do.

Because we are not opportunists it takes time for us to truthfully explain the technology, its implications, and how we have achieved yet another improvement our customers will be able to hear and enjoy.

We also have to reconcile in our own minds where the European Union is actually leading us. And at this time we don't think their motives are based on the environment at all! It is our opinion that the motive of the Eco-design directive is purely political. Politics will never lead us into musical (spiritual) enlightenment.

We had ran a product "pilot" over at Rockgrotto, but hostility by its host directed toward me has put a stop to any further discussion by me at that forum. To fill that vacuum and also to try and enlighten newcomers to our methods through feedback from other users as well as our own interjections, we set up this support community. It is early days, but it would be nice if some of those who benefited by obtaining the "green" Solo at a snip of a price, would air their satisfactions here, as the hoards do for our opportunistic competition.

A concise explanation of the "green" Solo is to appear on our official website as soon as we feel we can explain the whole issue of Eco-design honestly, and at that point the product will be officially launched. Currently it is still available on the "pilot" offer, but the necessary modifications are still hard-wired and there is are no visual marking to differentiate it from the original Solo. The offer will not be publicised here as our outlets already consider it to be a bad move for them.  However, it is not us who should be punished, they should aim their discontent at the European Union.
That none should be able to park up and enjoy the view without a smartphone and the knowledge in how to use apps

Very much appreciated that pilot .. and I hope some of the feedback was worth the typing time.

In short ... the "green" Solo  is an achievement - I enjoy mine everyday, and it continues to amaze me that a switched mode powered headamp can offer such richness, not amplify any digital glare, and provide such a wide, high, and deep stage.

So impressed by the Solo I've also recently bought the Reflex phono stage (it's cousin so to speak). I'm still bedding in the Reflex (it's up to 8 days), and I'll leave my review and impression until then. It seems to be going through the same stages the Solo did with varying reuslts daily. Some days I'm amazed, others I'm cursing! The Solo took about 3 weeks of being constantly powered up. So a little way to go for the Reflex.

I think Grahams reply answers all your questions if you read carefully.
To summarise, changes required by impending legislation will result in reduced SQ of existing products unless extensive modification is made to those products to accomodate those requirements (particularly WRT switchmode PS) and NOT reduce SQ.
These modifications have been made in the "green" products which were released for evaluation.
All the evaluation reports that I have read (and my own personal experience of both the Solo and the Reflex products) say that this objective has been achieved.
So, whether you buy a current (still legal to manufacture and sell) product or in the future buy a "green" compliant one because that is all that is available, with a GSP audio product you need have no concern WRT the expected SQ, at least IMO.
This will not necessarily be the case with competing products if you rely on reviews of pre legislation products and then purchase post legislation produced products.
Come on in, the water is fine.

I was also lucky enough to grab a solo as part of Grahams Rock Grotto Pilot study and this is what I posted there based on a log I kept re the solo burning in over it's first few days of life:

"Green solo impressions. Sennheiser HD595 cans.

Packaged like a Grannies Christmas present. No chance of this splitting open in transit! Short of the delivery company playing football with the package the solo was always going to arrive in pristine condition.

Opened the box and was surprised at how small it is. It looks bigger in the photos. Beautifully put together though.

0 hours burn in. The Coors Forgiven not forgotten from the album of the same name.
Nothing spectacular from the Solo but that's to be expected at this stage, nevertheless a nice sound if a little lacking in warmth. Although Graham states the Solo will sound bright at first I didn't find it that bad but my Cmoy is bright since the AD823 was swapped in. Nice detail on the Solo already though. I left it running at that point to return later.

3 hours into burn in. Metallicas Black album. The Solo is now just hinting at great things to come. Already the soundstage has bettered my CMoy. The detail already matches the CMoy which is itself a very impressive little amp. Wow this thing is fast, so precise. Percussion sounds fanatastic. Scratch the comment about matching the CMoy for detail the Solo is better :D The guitar on Nothing Else Matters is fantastic. When the Solo burns in a bit and warms up I'm going to be a very happy bunny!

48 hours in. Listening to a variety of favorite tracks now. That fevered grabbing a CD and thinking "I wonder what this'll sound like" that we all go through when we get some new kit. Percussion on The Police Spirits in the material world is the mutts. The Snare and cymbals have a level of realism I have never experienced on headphones before. Thankyou Graham for designing this little marvel. Mids have warmed up considerably over the last couple of days. Already a fantastic experience compared to my CMoy. Hints of bass starting to creep into the sound.

3 days into burn in. Bass has appeared but is lacking control. Accoustic tracks with little or no deep bass are sounding lovely. Classical too is excellent barring any very deep passages. Mid tones have warmed up. I've actually had a couple of "proper" listening sessions now. i.e. Listening and getting into the music not listening and analyzing the sound.

4 days in and now I'm REALLY enjoying the Solo. Like the HD595s it seems to handle everything I throw at it effortlessly. Bass has depth and has tightened up condiderably. Currently listening to Omar and the Howlers and I keep having to stop reading the forums and get into a track because the music is demanding my attention. The soundstage is great. On some classical tracks it's like someone has shoehorned an entire orchestra into my head and my head has expanded to take it all in, including space between the instruments. I know it's in my head but it just seems bigger. Fantastic seperation of the instruments. A truly 3D soundstage. Left, Right, in front, even some up and down and dare I say it some stuff sounds almost like it's from behind me.

5 days into burn in. I'm now onto Chopin. No comment except beautiful. Piano just sounds so natural. OK now onto Katie Melua and all I can say is the Solo handles female vocals like nothing else I have personally heard. Every emotion is captured and laid bare for the listener to examine. Diana Krall Likewise sounds S'Wonderful on the Solo. (sorry, I'll get my coat)

I have one major complaint though. The Solo should come with a Grin removal tool because I just sit here with a silly grin on my face all the time I'm listening to it.

I'll post more comments when and if things improve still further."

That was all about a month ago.

I haven't got time to add much to the above but rest assured when I do it'll all be good. As a one liner Everything just gets even better! :)

Hi all, new here.
I'm looking for an headphone amp, and after reading a lot on the internet this seems to be one right for me (combine with primarily HD650 for home use)
unfortunately there is no place nearby to audition them.

Now I've got two questions:

Is there any progress on the official launch of the Green Solo?
Is this pilot offer i've been reading about still valid? (and ok... three: if so, where can i find it?)

thanks
