I have no experience of Inspire's LP12 upgrades but Bob Isherwood there upgraded my Planar 2 which transformed its presentation. In my opinion a cost effective upgrade and one which I've further enhanced by replacing the RB250 with an Origin Live Silver; not much of this 28 year old turntable that remains Rega! In the light of my improved listening pleasure I'd certainly recommend investigating this possibility. The move from MM to MC and the addition of a Reflex C have also played a significant part in this transformation. He has good demo facilities at his new Chesterfield location (which includes GSP phono stages) and is also exhibiting at Whittlebury Hall next month.
As a point of information it was Bob who bought MSPhils redundant LP12 that was up for sale on this forum last year.

Hi I have never owned a LP12 not been in love with the rather marmite sound though that is not to say it isn't a good deck. As advised your ears may decide though taking a potentially bouncy LP12 too far may not be easy. From Birmingham, I did attend a relatively local midlands dealer with my brother in the early 80s which may not be there still to 'loan' a Pink Triangle, MRM Source Oddysey and Oracle Alexandra.
I am aware that Simon at Hi-Fi Sound in Stockton have excellent analogue demo facilities (including GSP!) and I would wholly recommend them albeit some way away from you! I took my deck there 6-7 years ago as a reference point fro a new phono stage and cartride and almost bought an arm a the same time! Good luck. Richard

I think it is. In my experience Robert isn't brilliant at responding to emails. If you don't hear back from him try phoning. He claims to sell more LP12s than anyone else. All modded of course.

Hi there, I am a recent new member and this is my first post. I too had an original LP12 from the early 1970's until two and a half years ago, I rang Inspire Hi-Fi and arranged to go for a demo and general chat (as you do). The MD Robert Isherwood is a great guy and very helpful. I had been pondering as you are, the sense or otherwise of going down the L*nn upgrade route. I took my LP12 with me and did AB listening tests against an Inspire modified one, although the Inspire LP12 was an improvement on my own I felt that it still was not doing the music as it should. There are several T/Tables on demo and after listening to a couple of their own products the difference was like chalk and cheese. I ordered an Eclipse turntable with their arm and an Ortofon 2m black. I am just as impressed with it now as I was then. For me dump the springs and go solid a lot less trouble and great sound, but we all hear differently so my advice is to do the same as I did and trust your ears. |

Interesting! My brother in law had an LP12 for many years and replaced it a few years ago with one of the early Eclipse TTs from Inspire. He's just changed the arm from a Rega RB1000 (soon to be mine) with an AMG.
