I normally do a bit of research on anything I'm buying, especially online. But recently I didn't . . .
I've a couple of brilliant Phase4 LPs of film music by Bernard Herrmann. One film score not represented on these records was Psycho. I'd heard the full album on a YouTube video (no idea if it was from a CD or LP), and saw a 180gm LP issue with the same cover . . Impulse buy coming up! Nice red vinyl, very flat (unusual occurrence these days). Quality sleeve. But I've heard fuller sound from a 78rpm shellac disc! The label: DOL. Or should that be "Doh!" Small print: www.vynology.ru I'm guessing the sound was recorded by an old cassette player setup in a fleapit cinema deep in the Urals. The catalogue flyer inside the sleeve lists some brilliant albums - but somehow I'm not tempted . . .
