Hmmm, that ties in nicely...Clap
That none should be able to park up and enjoy the view without a smartphone and the knowledge in how to use apps

Have not tried the one Grado do I own on the SL1200, (it is not that flash a cart anyway), but have read many similar comments on them re hum pickup with DD tables.

Re Grado carts, I've never had a problem with hum using a Grado Prestige Black or Gold on a standard SL1200/1210 standard or modified ( i've used 3 ). I wonder if other items near by were causing the hum ??

I'm thinking of fitting a Rega 300 ( standard ) to a SL1210 mk2.

I would be interested to hear of any problems you encountered.

I note you used the Origin Live mount, have you any experience of other makes?

Which turntable mat do you prefer?

Any help appreciated.

Also require a lid and hinges for the SL1210, any one got one spare?

Regards, Adrian.

Re other arm mounts: I'm afraid not, only ever tried the OL one.

Re mats: My preference at the moment is a heavy rubber mat ( or technics original 1/4 ribbed rubber item Embarrassed) topped with a wool felt mat ( aka Linn/Rega type ). I haven't tried anything more expensive than this due to being broke! Some folks like the Akromat ( spelling ?) others the SDS mat etc etc....

Re problems: Not really, it's a bit fiddly and time consuming due to lots of screws and stuff, but it's pretty straight forward, unscrew one arm, fit another. the only REAL problem is adjusting VTA/arm height, you need a special adjuster or Rega shims.....or different thicknesses of platter mats!

I posted a wanted advert for a lid for the  SL1210 project I am undertaking, on a another website. Someone local replied who had one spare!

Went to collect it tonite, and had a listen to his gear. Valve pre and power amps, Spendor speakers, fronted by SL1210 with new Origin Live arm with Denon moving coil. Impressive!

He has 2 x SL1210s and swears by them.

There was some  detectable hum from the system, but only when the volume was turned well up with no music playing, so no problem!

The Origin arm conversion was undertaken by some one in Darlington!

Oh ! and the original feet had been replaced with spiked feet.

Adrian.

As some of you may recall I fitted a Rega RB300/2M RED to my SL1200mk2 a while ago and I have been pleased with the results.
You may also recall that while I felt it overall to be an improvement over a lightly modded standard Technics arm I had 2 small concerns over it's stage height and treble quality, I think I have now addressed these mostly and it cost nothing, just time......

1. I had a 4 mm spacer under the arm, which a thought was right.....I now don't think it was, i've actually added another 2 mm rubber mat as an experiment, the sound IS much better with normal pressings (need to check 180gram), this gave a more open better detailed treble and sound stage. So I may end up fitting my 2mm spacer instead.....

2. I've now had chance to re-check alignment, tracking wieght, bias etc on my test record (the 2M RED doesn't appear to track great, even though in the real world it sound very confident). As a result i've increased the bias slightly and increased the tracking weight slightly too.
Again improved sound, focus and treble and detail better.

So look forward to another SL1210mk2 standard arm(slightly modded) V SL1200MK2 c/w RB300 SHOOT OUT REVISITED!!
