Lets see how my Ultralinear review goes down, I hope it won't mean the Wicker Man treatment shown below. It's not like I suggested using tone controls or something!

With thanks to Graham Slee for posting this image in such a thread last year.

I saw your post at HF a couple of days ago. Did not see anything negative at the time, I will go back and check.

I think it is more of the Solo Ultra Linear not getting enough coverage (as pointed out by Shamu and Jon) than getting negative comments on HF. I have seen a few excellent reviews of the Solo UL on HF (or for that matter, other Solo amps), but it is just not generating enough interest and attention(wonder why)

Lets post some reviews and scores for it in the Head Gear section (http://www.head-fi.org/products/graham-slee-solo-ultra-linear-headphone-amplifier) and it may attract more attention. I hope that will bring enquiries and further positive comments.

I've just ordered the Solo UL diy upgrade pcb and will hopefully post experience after either buggering up the installation and/or listening when "burn in"has completed.
Being of an age when the old memory starts to fail a bit, I'll try and remember what the Solo was like pre UL!

Good move! I am sure the upgrade's PCB swap out will be straight forward and accompanied by very clear instructions. If you need any reassurance, the DAK kits I have built were two of the best and easiest kits I have built.

From the reviews here and on other forums, I suspect you'll be trying to remember what was missing from your music before you had the UL. I had a Novo not a Solo before the UL, so my sound quality went from very good to excellent. Complex mixes are clearer, instruments sound more natural, and songs sound more musical.

Now awaiting good news and listening notes!

Received the UL upgrade pcb yesterday. Well within the 2 weeks specified for delivery.
Completed the swap this morning which took about 15 minutes. Connected the Solo up and powered up - success, the led illuminated anyway. Had a brief listen of a cd just to make sure everything worked - all good. Now permanently switched on and sending an FM tuner signal to the 'phones.
Unable to pass comment because of the very brief listen. I'll now give it a chance to "burn in" with listens during this period then post my impressions. There is, as mentioned elsewhere, a very faint hiss/hum not present with the non UL Solo without music but as soon as the music plays this totally disappears.
I did experience difficulty securing the volume control knob though. The small grub screw has to be fairly tight to grip the spindle to prevent "slip". Because it is brass and has a flat blade screwdriver slot then care needs to be taken to tighten sufficiently. I suspect this could very easily be damaged (steel driver/brass screw). A flat/indent on the spindle or the  use of a steel grub screw with a pointed end and an Allen key provision might be better? Or is there a reason not to?
Ah, the smut filter (if there is one ) accepted knob - most don't!Big%20smile
