more bass when standing up? |

Hi all,a bit strange this is!ive just re-connected our main music system up after 6 months!and yes it did sound a bit rough but the bass is more pronounced when I stand up!
Any comments? |

Bass wavelengths are longer than mids/treble and will interact with the room causing dropouts, boominess or exaggerated bass volume in various places. The different materials of walls, ceiling, floors, doors and windows will all have an impact. A room is like a drum and goes bananas when excited at the right frequencies correlating to the modal dimensions and this will vary a lot in different places. It is very difficult to achieve even bass response throughout the room
Having said all that, tuneful bass at the listening position is the most important of course |

Hi Dave, I've not experienced that myself but I assume it's a room mode where 1/2 wavelength matches a room dimension or distance from woofer to a room boundary. Apart from facetiously saying "sit down" may I ask a few questions...
Are the speakers and furniture in the same places as 6 month ago? Are any of them near front/rear or side walls i.e. room boundaries? What the room dimensions? Does inverting the speakers make a difference to the bass, seated and standing? |

A further question as I see you are in Spain...
Is the room mostly solid walls, floors or ceiling which will help 'constrain' the sound waves within? |

Thanks both,this is the first time ive noticed changes in bass level in the middle of a room!changes in treble yes [off axis with cheap speakers]
Room size;4.45x4.06x2.3high [meters]speakers on the long wall with French doors between them,they face a small window and have a large mirror to one side[on the short wall]and two doors on the other side. i'll set the system up properly today,phaze,balance etc.Ta,Barry |

Your re-jig today may have fixed this issue already. Going off the numbers only, my suggestion would be to rearrange to have the speakers on the short (4.06m) wall if possible. Because 4.45/2 = 2.23 close to 2.3m. Otherwise move the listening position and centre line of the speakers off the centreline of the room and move the speakers away from the wall behind them, on decent stands if possible.
Please enjoy your music even if the bass changes when you stand up. Ideally have the sofa 30 - 40% down the length of the room (or 60-70%). |

Thanks Jon,this am I wired in a new 22k volume control and this seems to have solved the problem plus a bit more warm up time.
As you suggest putting the speakers on the short wall would help the bass,i'll have a bit of a think about doing that. |
