Hello All,
I was wondering if there are any Linux users out there using the Majestic DAC? I have a couple of USB Audio Class 1/2 compliant DACs that are recognised immediately and work without a hitch so wouldn't expect any problems if the Majestic is also UAC1/2 compliant but it would be reassuring to hear from someone that’s used the Majestic / Linux. Kind regards James

Hi James
The Majestic spec says that it's capable of 48kHz sample rate, and there aren't any drivers to install to make it work. Another approach might be to connect something like a HiFace2 to your machine, and connect up to the Majestic with a SPDIF cable - the HiFace2 is native to MacOS, which in turn means it might well be native to the distro you're using.

Thanks for the suggestions Chris.
Linux is also 16/48 by default. I've occasionally reconfigured ALSA and dabbled with 24/192 but to be honest I was unable to hear any difference between the original 24/192 files and files that I down-sampled, either straight off my laptop or either of my DACs. I was mulling this over on the way home and remembered that I actually use three USB devices without any issues. In addition to my DACs, I have a Shure USB converter that I use when recording so I'm 99% confident that the Majestic will work without any issues. I've noticed also that there are number of Raspberry Pi users on the forum which usually run a flavor of Linux which looks good. It looks like I'm running out of excuses and I'm due for a dose of Majestic related wallet rash... :-) Regards James

Our very own John C has tested the USB input with Linux Ubuntu where it was immediately recognised - if that helps? You can ask him directly using the contact form regarding any other pointers he may know of.

That's just the confirmation I was looking for. I'm now running out of excuses so will likely be ordering next week... Kind Regards James |
