Thanks for all the information.
There is a note on the Vinyl Engine Strobe page that says the print scale is unimportant, which kind of makes sense as it relying on the synchronisation of the black and white stripes with the flash of the light. My next problem is finding an old filament lightbulb, everything is LED!

Many "mains" LEDs will exhibit quite good 100Hz flicker. They're often better than incandescent bulbs as they have a sharper on/off, as filaments continue to glow through the zero crossing of mains voltage. Ian

Yep, you are correct. I must have been thinking of the protractors. In any case, good luck with it.

Very true, Ian. Another good lamp is the neon. They do flicker more than a filament lamp at the mains frequency when powered directly from the mains.

Neons, as applied in Garrard TTs, work reasonably well, but they
aren't the brightest bulbs in the lampholder. I also understand that
they can be electrically noisy, creating a "spike" as they strike (i.e.
start conducting) on each mains cycle, although whether that is a
problem depends on many other design factors.

Mission accomplished. Found through one of the TT's sales outlets that there is an ex-employee of L*nn who offers a service of the TT arm bearings so I have had it done. The arm now has so little sideways friction the exact leveling of the deck is essential, in addition the bias setting can be be set lower than suggested. Splashed out on the AT cart, VM750SH and the sonic results are everything I could hope for, I feel very spoilt !! I now just need Santa to put some nice vinyl in my stocking.
