I'd consider the Bitzie's headphone performance (with HD650s and Denon 7000s) to be better than the average £350 headphone amp. So not in ULDE league, but very close. It easily matches the now long discontinued Sugden Headmaster, and this three input preamp was around £650 about eight years ago.

It is my belief that headphones such as the Sennheiser HD650 (and HD600 for that matter) are not quite honest enough to convey the full capabilities of the Bitzie DAC. I have a HD600, which is similar in performance to the HD650 but is less coloured in its presentation. Both are very good headphones, however, both are not as resolving as they could be so neither will transduce all that the Bitzie has to offer. So the Bitzie may not perform as well as it is actually capable. Just a suggestion.
If you ever get the opportunity to test it with other headphone models, make sure you give it a try and you might find the Bitzie price-to-performance ratio to be higher than you previously thought. Although your DAC comparison already shows the item which is better value for money anyway.I have a HD250II, HD600, K550 and ATH-M50 ready, that I will compare with the Bitzie when it arrives in a few days. The transducer is the most important component in the signal path. It doesn't matter how great the input DAC signal is if the transducer is not up to the task of presenting it accurately. With the most accurate transducer, one should hear the difference between DACs clearly and will even be able to detect differences between cables (in my opinion/belief only). ![]() Edited by Nuance_Ember - 02 Apr 2013 at 8:54pm |

Hi James, the HD580(or the HD600 which IMO sound the same after extensive side by side comparison) are a mellow headphone as compare with the likes of Grado. Having said so I understand why so many like the Senn sound although I prefer the overall Grado or AKG presentation. The Solo ULDE has a higher clarity, micro detail, yet it retains a level of mellowness and musicality that is a above that of the Bitzie. As you can imagine it should considering their price differences.

Thanks Miguel
. That makes sense.I know you're not the biggest Senn fan in the world... I'm really tempted to upgrade my UL Mk1 to ULDE for my RS-1s. What cans are occupying your head time at the moment? Best James

Not a fair question James!
My favorite cans are the AKG K1000, the HiFiMAN H500 and the Grado RS-1. However I have to swap in the others to get a change! Say the AKG K501 and the highly modified Denon D2000. Cheers!

I have a quick question for Graham. I have a mains adaptor unit for my Kodak camera which I can use with its USB-to-microUSB cable in order to charge the camera from the wall. Alternatively, I can use the same cable and connect it to a USB port on my computer to charge the camera from there instead. Now, I'm assuming that the wall charger is like a USB connection with no signal... so Graham, can I keep my Bitzie energised via connection to this wall adaptor via the Lautus USB cable whenever it is not connected to my computer. That way, when I turn my computer on, I'd just unplug the USB plug from the wall adaptor and plug it straight into the USB port on my laptop then put it back when my laptop is switched off. The "INPUT" of the adaptor is a universal 100-240V AC and the "OUTPUT" of the adaptor is rated as 5V (like USB) and 1A. Between the 5V and 1A, there is a horizontal line with a dotted line underneath it, which I assume means DC (constant or pulse...)
Do you think this is a good idea to keep the Bitzie energised for full performance at the offset of listening?? ![]() |

It doesn't look like it will hurt to try it.
