Ohhhhh, so it is the high voltage applied to the insulation (to test it insulates sufficiently/conducts exceptionally poorly!) that results in cable directionality! Now I see. It is that simple act of testing that induces permanent dipoles in the cable structure, which do not revert after the high voltage has been removed. The cable is now a sequence of permanent dipoles all lined up with the same orientation and therefore gives the metal a permanent uneven charge distribution. A non-uniform electric field is the result and as audio signals are a propagation of electric charge, they are influenced by electric fields. Electron flow one way will not experience the same electric field resultant forces as it would if the flow direction was reversed. Wink

Ash, I'm glad you read it all so that I didn't have to. Cheers!

The results found on page 105 (with graphs on page 106) show the effects on LFD, low frequency dispersion. A good technical writeup of :

Dielectric Relaxation Analysis to Assess the Integrity of High Voltage DC Cables of the Mass Impregnated Type .

Garnered from Graham posting: "ready with your poison pens - read this!"
This dielectric polarising effect applies equaly to cables and any capacitor.
Dipoles only happen where there is a void or chamber (like a bubble).

That "energiser" must be as effective and in a similar vein to those magnets, which when attached to an engine's fuel supply pipe, make a car go faster and use less fuel by re-aligning the molecules.Geek

I'm perplexed by how they are saying that (atomic) protons can be aligned. That's nuclear physics, not chemistry. Chemistry is just involved with electron transfers, interactions and their quanta. Protons of the atomic nucleus have a property known as "nuclear binding energy", don't they? Confused This is associated with the "strong nulcear force" and "weak nuclear force", NOT with "electromagnetism"?? The four fundamental forces of nature... (Gravity is the last one)?? Was my long lost education just a dream?? Confused

Electromagnetism or high voltages affect electron behaviour, not atomic proton behaviour. A proton is a hydrogen (Protium isotope) nucleus. Only free protons (like those obtained from acids) can be (significantly) affected by electric fields/electromagnetism.

Combustion is a chemical reaction (electron transfers that allow atoms to rearrange). Nuclear protons are completely irrelevant... O__o or did I drop my brain somewhere today??
