This is one reason that I've been doing my headphone comparisons over many weeks; to try and discern the reality from my perception of the reality. These two things are not always the same and sometimes a person's mind can get in the way of the real truth. Going back every so often and repeating the comparisons under different circumstances, at different times, with a different mindset is the only way I feel confidently able to trust my perception of reality. It's like performing a scientific experiment where there are random errors that cannot be prevented. The real truth can be ascertained through consistent repeatability.

I've just been reading a review of a cable from another manufacturer. They wrote: "these cables need at least 2
weeks minimum of heavy use to sound their best."
I don't understand this notion. What is the scientific reasoning? Define "heavy use" as well. I understand that cables, like all materials, have resistance, capacitance, inductance as well as other measurable physical characteristics however I do not understand how prolonged signal/charge progagation through a conductor (at constant temperature) will change these characteristics... ![]() I think I can understand how high insulation test voltages induce directionality in cables but that's it. Maybe I need to brush up on my physics... ![]() |

I keep getting this advert being pushed in my face. I love how it looks like the biggest load of BS that I have ever seen... ![]() An electronic component is only as good as its application. They should know better than to boast about single components. I guess they're against integrated circuits? I'm sure those BJTs sound wonderful?? Lifetime warranty?? Well, only for someone who is unfortunate enough to only live for two decades, at best?? Would be even more amusing if it's a Class-A device? ![]() Supreme price tag too probably...

Have you tried these yourself in an appropriate application Ash ? If it might be worth anything, I have used their (previously DIY) buffer using these modules and found it the only device I could insert in the signal chain with no audible detriment. Sufficiently so, that when I wanted to be able to vary the output of my Reflex for recording purposes, I modified the buffer with a stepped attenuator and used that to control recording levels at the input to my ADC. This does not mean that I endorse their advertising, but the product is NOT, IMO, rubbish. Edited by tg - 02 Sep 2014 at 4:03pm |

I'm most sure Ash has not...
I guess if it has both FET and BJT input choices, with emitter degeneration option in BJT mode, infinite output current to match an infinite slew rate, unity gain stability, at least 45 degrees of open loop phase margin, adjustable open-loop pole frequency with a nice smooth 90 degree roll off almost to its closure frequency, access to offset null pins, ..., ... etc? To exclaim without qualification is a bit silly. I'm sure the ad will appeal to those who know very little about op-amps and how to choose them for a particular application. |
