The easiest way to methodically check all the resistors and capacitors is the full colour PCB photo Graham includes in the manual. Assuming your copy is lost please use the schematic Graham linked to earlier in this thread and tick off each part value as you check it on the actual PCB. (There are also PCB photos on page 8 of the DIY project thread Graham linked to earlier)

Being helpful but risking stating the obvious the capacitors have their values written on the casing. Check everything including polarity of electrolytics. The resistor colours will be in 5 bands:
0-Black, 1-Brown, 2-Red, 3-Orange, 4-Yellow, 5-Green, 6-Blue, 7-Violet, 8-Grey, 9-White. 4 digits for the value with a power of ten at the end.

Here's a photo of mine.
Just listen, if it sounds good to you, enjoy it.

If everything has been assembled correctly then somebody here must have put in the wrong value somewhere. I could only tell that by seeing a full colour photo of the component side of the board.

Graham, I was only suggesting that a possible cause could be that the 390 and 390k resisitors might have been mixed up during assembly by Mick.
Photos would help.

Mick, please can you take a well-lit digital photo of your Genera's PCB, as square on as possible ideally a close-up macro shot so we see the parts clearly. Ideally it would have the correct white balance, so please use a lamp and set your camera's white balance so the camera screen looks like what you see.

Please post it here as a jpg for Graham to look at. Please PM me if I can help you on the photo/upload stuff.

Graham I will try to have a detailed photo up this evening and please rest assured, I am not blaming your equipment, I understand that it is definitely me that has done something wrong, I just need to work out what it is.

True: if swapped it would lead to a bass and midrange free extremely thin sound with hardly any gain. Worth checking...

390 R is orange, white, black, black, tolerance band

390 k is orange, white, black, orange, tolerance band
