It depends how close the speakers are to you, the size of the baffle, the T/S parameters of the driver and the SPLs you want. Obviously, without a large box, efficiency in the low frequencies drops off like a stone so you rely on proximity and sensible volume levels.

Something like a ~£110 pair of CHN-110 in a large cardboard desktop open baffle should have very respectable bass capabilities. I am tempted to try them.

If you succumb to temptation Ash, I'll be interested to hear how you get on.

I ordered some Mark Audio Sota Tozzi Two speakers today. I will let you know how I get on with those. I am hoping for them to replace my uber-expensive MySphere 3.1 headphone. If I can legitimately replace the headphone with a speaker equally precise, I can sell the headphone for a load of cash that can be invested in more DIY speakers.

MySphere 3.1 vs Tozzi Two comparisons to come. Once I have a speaker response I can trust, shall drop headphones like a lead weight. Well-engineered speaker drivers with Graham's Proprius are fantastically capable at a price point that is not absolutely ridiculous.

The silver Tozzi Two speakers arrived today. Very high build quality; look forward to testing them over the next few days.

Hi all

I'm a new convert to the Solo SRG2. I liked it so much I bought the PSU1 power supply soon after I got the amp, based on recommendations and reviews. I was sceptical, but it sounds even better now.

I'm interested in recommendations for headphones that members find are a particularly good match for the SRG. So far I'm switching between AKG K702s, Grado SR325s and some Meze 99 Classics. They all sound great to me. I had a slight preference for the Mezes at first, but since then I've changed the earpads on the Grados to something larger and softer and had them converted for detachable cables (via a mini jack socket fitted into each earpiece), then added an upgraded, braided cable. This was all intended to be more about comfort than audio quality, but the fit is better and that does affect the sound. All three headphones allow me to hear details I've never noticed before, even in music I've listened to for 40 years or more.

Welcome Danny. I am pleased the Solo SRG is working well with your headphones. It's great to discover new things in music you know well, the Solo has done that for me too.

I am very curious about the Meze 99 Classics. As a longtime user of the Denon AH-D7000/7200, I definitely like some fat bass presence. From what I have read, the Meze 99 is even bassier: I would like to try them, but it's impossible to demo them around here. Are they really that bassy?
