50 watts???

Did I read that?

You'll need a 312.5 watt per channel power amp!

My suggestion for this product is to use it with their own amplifier, which incidentally is 5 watts into 50 Ohms.

The Proprius can only do 4+ watts into 50 Ohms. I would't want anybody wondering what they'd be missing.
That none should be able to park up and enjoy the view without a smartphone and the knowledge in how to use apps

Interesting comments on the HD800 treble Tim. It lets them down I feel & possibly explains
why many listeners find the 800s clinical.
Incidentally the 25 or so year older design HD540 II's treble is cleaner & clearer IMO.

Ludicrous isn't it Graham? On the HE-6 page, HiFiMAN recommend their now discontinued EF5 (2w per channel) and the new EF6 (5w per channel @ 50Ohm)... I'm still tempted to get the 2nd hand stereo amp for burn in usage and try the Proprius pair later though as you never know... Probably one to add to the site if it does!

Thanks RichW. I haven't had the privilege of hearing the older Sennheisers but I can see how they could be better. If something is good , it shouldn't display those sorts of weaknesses with certain types of recordings! The HE-6 handled the same songs much better (in fact, most if not all the others did). Yes you could hear it was bright but I wasn't in pain during it and neither did I have to turn them down.

If it helps I read something similar about the LCD-2's need for lots of power and found they (and my ears!) were fine with my Solo Ultra Linear.

Edit: Audeze state that the LCD-2's "Optimal power requirement 1 – 4W"

I like my HD250/II's and am looking forward to hearing the HD540/II's Ash is sending me.

An optimum driving configuration for one headphone may be a sub-optimal driving configuration for another. Depends on how the drivers are calibrated. I trust my HD540IIs to give excellent sound from both mediocre equipment and world-class (GSP) equipment. I spent months listening to various headphones with thousands of different music tracks spanning all genres, diverse/simple/complex instrument tonalities and recording styles in order to carefully assess what makes the music sound great. You want to know what makes great sounding music? I'll tell you...

Well mixed/mastered source material and sensible, logical engineering!

You are probably right in general Ash. The LCD-2 power requirement is now quoted in my earlier post to show the similarity in what Hifiman and Audeze say is needed to power their respective headphones.
