Now that the ADC has been mentioned in dispatches (well, the Audio Soapbox email, at least) for 2014, I thought I'd start a thread here to discuss it, as well as our requirements or wishes.

What I'd like to see is this:

RCA input
RCA pass through output
USB output
Maybe S/PDIF coax output
Variable output level control (big knob on the front!)

Anything else?

I'd agree and would ask if optical out would also be of benefit?

Rather than it simply being a similar codec to the Bitzie maybe it ought to be A-D'd by something like a A to I2S ADC chip, then a transceiver such as the excellent WM8804 for the SPDIF outs (giving best quality coax and optical outs to a sound card), and then to a SPDIF to USB chip? The whole being powered by a PSU1?

Would there be any mileage in having balanced inputs too?

Also think cost! The more features the more expensive. Also what about its size?

Please don't confuse me with the Devil.

Listen carefully and you will not hear any deceit. Then listen freely to our results without any persuasion, because there are no salesmen in the loaner program.

But if you like your ears tickled by neuro-linguistic programming then you need to venture down other pathways. There are plenty to choose from.

You can see those who tempt falsely by "following the money".

Size: Solo size? But that might restrict rear socketry. Could the RCA in/out be on one end, digital outs and power on the other?

I'd hope for the best possible quality so the WM8804 & SPDIF to USB chip with PSU1 power would be good.

I think the target audience needs identifying. For my part it's digitising vinyl, but there should be other uses . . . .

I have 3 uses for the ADC

1. In the 70's & 80's I copied all new vinyl straight to TDK SA or metal cassettes so I had a pristine copy. Like a fool I later sold hundreds of LPs but have since replaced most. I sometimes listen to these tapes and want to digitise before they deteriorate. ADC input - RCA

2. Digitise vinyl for 'on the go'. ADC input - RCA

3. Digitise a few SACDs with no CD layer for 'on the go'. ADC input - Balanced XLR preferred

I will therefore use the ADC temporarily and would prefer not to purchase another PSU1 just for that. Would it be possible to run this at the same time from the existing PSU1 with some sort of adapter? (maintaining permanent supply to my Reflex-M)

I do not have a home use situation where it would be desirable to run an analogue signal via a digital processor and then convert back to analogue for amplification and listening. Perhaps others need that and therefore a second PSU1 would get permanent use

Size is no issue for me and I am confident cost will be the same value for money as every other GSP product
Older than I once was, younger than I'll be

I had been researching this subject for some time and it is doubtless a very technical topic and that is when I put all my trust, yes sincerely, in GSP but we have been round the mill, do we need to upsample and what is the best chip to do we incorporate the RIAA equalisation phono amp with the ADC among many topics covered ..recently whether spdif would provide a better more musical output and the answer was that a good value chip would provide 24 bit 96 hz  through spdif but not USB ...I followed the thred with great interest but want to know when and can it not be as a KIT . Now as for an extenal Power supply ..all for it....an expensive chip inside the box should not depend on USB power......I STILL PUT MY MONEY ON THE GSP ADCbecause many have offered the market what will sell BUT the GAHAM SLEE mindset will offer JUSTICE to music.Cool
