I have acquired an old Pink Triangle "Little Pink Thing" turntable, a budget version of their PT TOO, in need of some t.l.c.. Mechanically very good and cosmetically not too bad.
I want to try and get it working properly. It has electronically switchable speed selection. There is an internal p.c.b. with mains input terminals and a three terminal output to the 110v, 50Hz, synchronous motor. Strange for PT as they usually used a d.c. motor. The 45 speed is fine but when 33 is selected the speed varies slightly and there is slight noise from the motor. At 45 it's totally silent. It even rotates the wrong way sometimes when 33 is selected! ![]() Does this indicate a problem with the motor or the p.c.b.? If it's the p.c.b. then it could be worth some outside intervention. If it's the motor, I'm not sure. A replacement will not be cheap even if there is a compatible modern alternative Anyone any ideas as to which it could be? ![]() Edited by oldagetraveller - 15 Feb 2014 at 12:08pm |

Hi Peter, have you tried the LPT threads on Vinyl Engine?

Thanks Jon, I'll give that a try. I am registered on there and have already asked about tonearm fitment. So I will ask on Vinyl Engine too. It has an old Rega RB300 in excellent condition (worth more than the deck in it's present state!), that was one of the two arm makes the top plate was drilled/machined for.
I just wondered if one of the electronically knowledgeable members on here might have an idea. There is a d.c. motor conversion available with external power supply and electronics, that would "fix" the fault, but the cost of that doesn't really make it a viable option. |

You've probably done this already Peter, but running a search for "LPT speed fluctuation" and similar phrases should help to diagnose the likely cause of the 33 1/3 RPM behaviour.
