Hi

Just a few questions

I've just managed to bag a set of HD800's at an insane price through a contact . Has anyone got any advice re required burn in for these ?

Also what's the consensus on after market cables for these, is it worth the cash?

I've put my name down on the loaner programme for the diamond edition and am looking forward to see how they work together.

Dean, I would not worry about new cables for now. Just use the HD800 and learn "its sound" before doing anything. BTW, as I recall a good 200-300 hours of burn-in would be advisable. Have fun!

Hi, I agree with Miguel, listen & enjoy your 800s for a while & really listen to how they sound, particularly with the music you know well. Then try different cables & you'll be able to judge whether they sound better with stock or after market cables. I understand the urge to tweak/upgrade, I itch to do it myself & have to often rein myself in hope you enjoy the new cans, I hear that the diamond also is a good match. Happy listening.

Having owned (actually they're business property) the HD800 for near on two years I found they are now just about burned in.

Admittedly they have not been used as an everyday headphone - tests are carried out with others as well you see.

I found the left hand capsule gave me "one sided hearing" ever since they arrived, but after several weeks of being the load for a UL on constant play, the left hand capsule is now working properly.

Sennheiser offered to check them out but I'm so busy I've never the time to send things back.

I can say they really do project the sound stage much further than the HD250II, which I still love.
That none should be able to park up and enjoy the view without a smartphone and the knowledge in how to use apps

I wouldn't bother with changing the cable - it's an excellent one as standard.  I use the standard cable and my HD 800 are almost 4 years old (I have the first ones in the UK).

Regarding burning in - the designer recommended to me 48 hours with pink noise (NB: pink, not white) at about normal level (NB: not too high, I would go lower rather than higher).

But they do need a good source, so don't skimp on the headphone amp. and they do show up recording faults.

Excellent cans and I would not use anything else now.
