Looks like Graham has beaten me to it.

It is quite OK to plug any line-level input directly into the Solo, many who use headphones only, will connect a CDP or DAC directly into the Solo.

The output from a phono stage can also be input directly into the Solo (as Graham does for development work).

I have often used the pair of inputs to directly compare various CD players or DACs.

Using the "tape out" of an integrated amp is a convenience to allow use of a single source with either the headphone system or a speaker system and avoid unplugging and replugging cables.

The "tape out" usually is a direct bypass of the preamplifier functions.

Perhaps I am labouring the obvious, if so, apologies.

           Yes I am using the tape out at the moment I just wondered how it would sound connected direct to the headphone amp.I will
probably try it just to satisfy my curiosity.

It depends on the amp, or should I say, it depends on the manufacturer's attitude towards tape outputs (having been there... mentioning no name).
That none should be able to park up and enjoy the view without a smartphone and the knowledge in how to use apps
