Can someone apprise if Voyager is a good match for Audio Technica W1000 ? in other words, does W1000 mate well with Voyager? |

Hi oxophone, I own and really like the AT-W1000 but do not own, nor would I have use for, a portable amp. I am not one who jogs, cycles or commutes using headphones. Around 12 months ago I had an evaluation loan of a Voyager and having only studio type headphones (the ATs and AKG 701) I did that evaluation in the context of someone using the Voyager as a substitute for a desktop amp, largely for PC based audio. I envisaged it a likely situation that many would want a portable amp for portable use but might like to be able to also use it with PC based systems when not on the go. Certainly the Voyager had no problems driving either of those IIRC and my feeling was that it could certainly fill that role. That said, it is, primarily, a portable amp, intended for "out and about" usage - whereas the W1000 are definitely a quality studio headphone and not intended (or suitable) for streetwear. You would not go rallying in a stretch limo and probably not hire a WRX for your daughters wedding. If you like the "woodies" and the AT sound perhaps consider the ATH-EW9 as being more suitable. Do not suppose this directly answers your question but it may be helpful to consider these things. Edited by tg - 24 Aug 2008 at 7:02am |

Having owned both I can tell you the Voyager has no problem driving the AT W1000, IMO it drives it well. However I do agree with tg that the W1000 would not be a can I would use for street wear. For stationary use the Novo would be IMO a better amp.
On the other hand if you plan on using the W1000 as a transportable it could work. By transportable I mean you carry the cans in a bag w/ the amp to your office/hotel/etc and use it in the privacy of your room. I do something similar everyday but I choose an open can so I can better hear the phone ringing or when someone shows up at my office door.

thanks .
please don't mind, but I think, you are missing a point .. i haven't seen anyone jogging with their headphone amp ..... they do it with nano.point is even at home or at hotel can you use the Voyager to drive a full headphone to its full capacity. hope that clears my position. |

or two, please read past the word "jog". I did intend to provide information from my experience that might be relevant to other usages, it seems I was unsuccessful, please forgive my obtusity. |
