Thank you Bob that is an interesting article, I liked the infrared RC metaphor. And no matter what signal or source we use, it will never sound better than our speakers or headphones.

Thanks Bob. Yes from looking at reviews that looked like a good option for the money. Afraid the DAC side will have to be put on hold at the moment, too many other expenses at the moment. Good to know someone has one and rates it highly. Please share any more thoughts etc. What do you use to connect the metrum to the source?

I've recently changed my cabling to Mark Grant G1000HD. I post a bit on the Art of Sound Forum and a lot of guys there enthuse about them, and having tried them (they have a return policy - if you don't like 'em send 'em back) could see why. There was a definite change to my liking (ie "better"). So based on this I've only just got their digital interconnect based on the same wire. I have been using an Ecosse digital lead up to this point, but haven't actually swapped them over yet. I have to say, though, the Ecosse cable (The Producer) has been working well - it'll be interesting to see what difference, if any, the Mark Grant cable brings. It's quite refreshing to come across a cable producer who doesn't spend money on fancy packaging and is confident enough to offer a no-quibble refund. Not that there aren't others out there, of course .. ..

After about three weeks with the Mark Grant digital interconnect in place between my Squeezebox Touch and the Metrum DAC, I have to say I'm pleased with it. My impression is an improvement - albeit small - in clarity and smoothness. I'm waiting for a beefy power supply for the DAC, an SR3-05 by Paul Hynes (info at the bottom of this page) - which I expect to have a much greater effect, as the wall-wart stock item is, by all accounts, pretty mediocre.

Hi Bob, is it this one please? I am interested as I have a coax cable running from my Squeezebox Touch to the Audiolab 8200CD I use as my DAC.
When I upgraded my Touch power supply, it definitely improved the sound. It was a DIY job but convinced me that this kind of upgrade is worth the money. I think you will be glad you did it! Edited by Fatmangolf - 22 Apr 2012 at 9:27am |
