Tony,

Seems like we've both stopped at a lot of the same places on our audio sojourns. My acrylic platter is also the Groovetracer which is much better machined than the Iron Audio I used previously. I've also used the Non-Felt mat (a disaster - LPs sometimes stuck to it). Shortly after I puchased my P3-24 (with power supply), I went whole hog for the Groovetracer mods after reading Jeff Dorgay's review in Tone Audio: acrylic platter, tol subplatter (with Delrin standoffs) and bearing, and the counterweight, which replaced the Michell. Frank of Groovetracer is a great guy and does superlative machining work.

I tried the Ringmat on the acrylic, but it made the sound seem less focused, and added a midrange hardness. No weight, of course, except for the (useless?) Ringcap. I found the naked acrylic and HRS weight (pricey!) better. Still the glass platter with the Ringmat offered tighter bass response. I've been switching between platters.  Madness, yes?

The  Groovetracer Delrin platter is on my want list; but after reading your comments, I think I'll try the cheaper alternative for the time being: the 3mm Achromat with the HRS record weight.

Rod,

my deck is fitted with a Michell Tecnoarm and an SRM "silent base" which effectively makes it a suspended deck with the motor mounted on the sub chassis and off the plinth.  I have also fitted the 24 volt motor and TTPSU with speed switching.

Since you have the TTPSU I gather, you might consider Michael Lim's dual 33rpm pulley, I fitted one of these with a pair of the Rega "white belts" for a noticeable improvement.

The combination of motor upgrade and dual belt drive were the last mods I made and were earlier this year, most of the others I did some years ago.

The change with those last mods were quite a change of character to my hearing, it lost, perhaps a certain "breathless" quality but gained an air of impeturbability and unstoppability, more akin to a high mass deck.  In some way the presentation seemed to slow down and allow all the details to develop more fully and completely - it seems a little odd to describe it this way, but that was my impression at the time - a completely unhurried and fully presented musical event with nothing skipped or glossed over and everything accorded its rightful place and weight, almost as if time itself were stretched to allow everything its own space.

Have to agree about Frank, superb engineering, both design and execution and good to deal with as well.

Tony

Thanks for the info on Michael Lim, a site previously unknown to me. I'll be ordering the double pulley and pulley puller ASAP.

I'm repeating earlier posts here but suggest replacing the subplatter and putting an acrylic platter on. This added bass weight and I don't use a mat with it.

With thanks to tg I use an Achromat 1200 on my Technics and a weight/puck. So I suspect the 3mm Achromat on a Rega will help.

I wonder if anyone out there has tried an Achromat on NA Spacedeck?
The original mat on my spacedeck looks a bit shabby now - especially since i dropped a vinyl on it " end on"!
Fortunately, the record was non-precious Wink

Thanks for confirming the value of purchasing an Achromat. I returned to the Groovetracer acrylic platter on the GT Reference subplatter - no mat now, but employing an HRS weight. Michael Lim's mods, esp. the dble. pulley look interesting too.
Regards,
Rod
