Hi folks,

I've been reading this forum ever since I bought myself a Voyager amp about 3 months ago and would appreciate some of your knowlegable advice.

I absolutely love this amp and mostly use it with my Cowon D2+ mp3 player (cd's ripped in Flac format)and Klipsh X10 IEM's.

Lately I've been saving up for a "proper" set of headphones to listen with while at home, unfortunately they would have to be closed back so as not to annoy my wife.

My budget would stretch to Denon AH-D5000 at a push. Anyone know of any others I should be looking at?
I like all types of music, from classical to heavy rock.

I own a Linn Sondek LP12 and have quite a large vinyl collection, but I don't have any suitable room to setup a reasonable hi-fi sytem.
My thinking is if I get a decent pair of headphones I can use with my MP3 player it will spur me onto doing greater things with my LP12. Like a Solo amp etc.

Cheers in advance. :)

Dougs.

Hi Doug, I have owned the D5000 and currently own the D2000. I really like the sound from either of these to units provided ... they have the MarkL mods and in the case of the D2000 a re-cable with OCC cable or the D7000 cable which can be found.

Before you spend money on either I would suggest you check out Audiogon, you can find these cans on a regular basis at about $200 for the D2000 and $300 for the D5000. Of course I am assuming you are in North America to take advantage of said deals.

If you do not mind supra ear the Audio Technical ATH-ESW9 is very nice or for a full size the ATH-W1000 are also very nice. Used you can find the first at about $200 and the second for $300. Good luck.

Hi Doug
i got lucky and bought a set of d7000 for around £450 from a guy(from usa) on head-fi.
they were only a few weeks old and in mint condition.
there are bargains to be had if you are willing to wait.
i seem to remember getting clobbered £25 on import duty, but still a bargain and competitive with new d5000 over here.
also the ultrasone range is more affordable. but i guess you already know that.

My own closed cans are the Sennheiser HD 250 and HD 25-1.

But if you want top end closed, I think the ones I would look at now are the new Beyer T5p - they look pretty interesting.

I tried them quickly at a show, but that is not really a good way to do it.

The Voyager is actually an exceptional little amp. and will even drive top-end cans like the Sennheiser HD 800 pretty well.
