This is what many could consider a most ridiculous headphone amp test...

Putting the output into a 32 Ohm load (the yellow coded cable) to mimic the load of low impedance (Grado-like) headphones...

Into a couple of Proprius mono blocks (sneak preview of a prototype with latest heatsink)

And thence into a pair of extremely revealing Harbeth (BBC workstation) M20 monitors.

I'll expand the topic more after the weekend.

I sometimes use the UL headphone line out to drive a mini integrated system (Philips MCM760) through the AUX input. Would that possibly damage the UL because of impedance mismatch ?

Looking forward to reading your conclusions on this experiment !

I would guess it would do no harm to either piece of equipment. How did it sound Shamu144?

Out of curiosity has anyone tried connecting speakers to the output of a Solo or Novo? I would imagine the 100mW or so into 8 Ohm would limit the pleasure but please share?

The output of the Solo UL (and SRGII) is short circuit proof.

Thanks, it is good to know I am safe using the UL that way.

It does sound bloody brilliant this way, within the limitations of course of such a playback system (surprisingly well balanced for a 200 euros Philips mass market mini hifi stereo!!). Before the UL, I would use the headphone line out of the Lavry DA11 to drive the AUX input, and frankly, the improvement with the UL is obvious (more body and weight, PRAT, timing), even on such a basic system. That was a revelation.

Wow, it shows UL is a brilliant development of the ubiquitous op-amp.
