Hi everyone,
With the Bristol show coming up and GS's ULDE being used at the Grado exhibition, I was wondering if anyone had any insight into the Grado lineup? I've only every demoed the 325i and whilst I liked the sound, I thought things like imaging were a bit lacking. Also, I thought they were a bit 'peaky' at times, but that was way before I heard and bought a superb ULDE! I'm not able to make it to the Bristol show and don't have any dealers nearby that offer the higher end of the Grado range the RS2i/1i, GS1000i and PS1000. If anyone can describe the sound of these, especially with reference to the 325i, I would very much appreciate it. All the best...

Hi, I have a pair of Grado 325i and also a pair of the PS 1000 headphones. I'm not really in a position to talk about the rest of the range but I have used the 325i with a Voyager headphone amp directly linked to my iPod classic and was pleased with them at the time. I also have a Solo ULDE which I bought to use with my Grado PS 1000. This setup is linked to a Squeezebox Touch streaming music from my Apple Mac. More recently I have had the good fortune to be able to borrow a preproduction version of the Majestic DAC which lifts the system to a different level. The thing that stopped me applying to your post earlier was the fact that I have not had the chance to use the Grado 325i headphones with the Solo. I intend to do this very shortly and will try and get back to you once I have done this. The 325 is regarded as being good within its price range but it isn't anything like as good as the PS 1000's. This is altogether a different experience, but then it should be when you consider the size and price difference. There are two things to remember when trialling headphones and that is that, like the Solo ULDE, they need many hours of running in before they are anywhere near at their best. Unfortunately most dealers are not able to provide well run in trial versions. The PS 1000 is a fantastic headphone and in some people's opinion one of the best available. When you combine them with the ULDE connected with a pair of CuSat50 RCA cables you are really talking about something special! See: file:///Users/philipplayfer1/Documents/My%20Documents/other%20stuff/Grado%20PS1000%20Headphones%20&%20Graham%20Slee%20Solo%20Super%20Ultra%20Linear%20Amp%20Review%20«%20KitGuru.webarchive If however, in addition to that, you use the Majestic DAC then you are in hi-fi heaven! Incidentally, Audio Affair (UK) often sell 'open box' or 'B grade'Grado PS 1000 headphones at up to £500-£700 cheaper than the full price ones. In every respect they are are as good as the full priced version. I don't know if this is helpful to you but I will try the Grado 325i with the ULDE and the majestic and let you know how they stand up. |
