I have just got a new TV from my brother and I wrongly assumed that its optical connection on the back was an optical input, when in actual fact it is an optical output. I connected the optical output of my Playstation 2 to the optical (output) of the TV, spending a little while wondering why I couldn't get the console audio playing through the TV speakers...
![]() Is there any chance that I have damaged either of the optical outputs from connecting them together??

Well, I just connected the PS2 optical output into optical input 1 of my Majestic then had dual-mono CuSat50 0.6m going from Maj unbalanced outs into the TV audio RCAs. TV speakers sound noticeably better now than they do from the analogue output of the console.

I can't see that it would have damaged any of the optical units, it's just light going the wrong way and at insignificant power levels.

Just listen, if it sounds good to you, enjoy it.

No, you were just basically shining a light at an LED. |

Yes, I realized that I couldn't cause any damage after thinking through what I had done.
They're light emitting diodes, not photodiodes. |
