Thank you Frank. I was surprised my method worked that well!

I've measured a=198mm, b=93mm.
Mines not a Rega plinth , but the principles are the same.

Frank, Jon & Ian,

Thank you all. I know someone who will be very grateful. I’ll check out my Manticore Mantra (RB1000) as well out of interest.

Now this is confusing!

Armed with Jon’s measurements I made myself a cardboard template which I was going to use to define the ‘ideal’ toe-in angle which Jeff said I needed, because I was running out of anti-skate adjustment (as described in the Audiomods thread).

It turns out that my arm is actually mounted further back than Rega arms are on Rega turntables.  This being the case I shouldn’t run out of anti-skate adjustment.  I need to have a play, but I wonder whether my running out of anti-skate adjustment was only an issue when I was struggling to get the height of the arm correct.

It might be a few days before I get to it again.

When I looked at my Rega yesterday I realised the arm's pivot point  was further from the back edge of the baseboard than I had supposed. I think it will be a matter of taste and I agree with Jeff about toe-in.

Having worked on an SME series III and my series IV I trust SME's guidance that the inside edge of the headshell should be 53mm +/- 3mm from the edge of the turntable. Or about 50mm or 2 inches from the edge of a 12 inch record on the platter. I hope that helps you, Ifor.

Thinking more about this, what works for SME anti-skate may not be right for other manufacturers' tonearms. Following the OEM advice which could be Rega's instructions, which is what you were doing already Ifor.
