For me, the HD600 and HD650 are actually quite pathetic compared the HD540 and HD560. But that might be just me.

Appreciate the additional comments, and thanks Ash for the word on the Etymotic ER-4S. Never owned a pair by that particular company, but I know they have a good reputation. The thing is I already have a couple of pairs of IEMs: Westone True Fit 3 and Ultimate Ears Triple 10. Both have served me well and although I would not dismiss buying another set of IEMs I just fancied trying a pair of overear headphones. And of course, like everyone one else who is passionate about sound quality, ideally I'm looking for something that offers a step-up in high fidelity sound too.
Do you think the Etymotic ER-4S would be superior? I've already tried the Westone W40's & W50's and although they are good, IMO they are not really any better than what I've already got. I also thought a pair of overears headphones would give me a different soundstage? And just to reiterate I'm looking for something primarily for home use, but allows me to be mobile and plug in to my Voyager. |

ER-4S is very neutral; you hear everything in the recording. The bass has a linear roll-off but has less weighting than a circumaural headphone like the HD250/HD540. ER-4S upper midrange seems very fractionally elevated compared to HD540 but the tonality of both is pretty much the same. I will probably go back to just a ER-4S for portable audio as they are very transparent and enjoyable.

I realise that this is (very) old thread but I can answer the OP.
I have an iPod classic which I have used my Voyager and a pair of Senn HD580s. I think the latter were predecessors to the HD600 series. Please correct me if I am wrong. I am always very impressed with this combo and invited a musician of my acquaintance to listen. He felt the sound was as good as he would hear through phones in the studio! Hope that helps anyone reading this thread. Les |
