I see some AMP 2 SE's in a rectangular shape and others a semi square shape why is that?

Is one a newer design over the other, different internals?
Am curious to know if newer or improved or just cosmetic and which one is the most recent.

Greg the latest Gram Amp 2 SE uses the rectangular case & replaced the square section case
a few years ago.

I believe the difference between square section case and new rectangular one is purely cosmetic. Why change a winning sound?

The same applies to the moving coil stage Gram Amp3 Fanfare.
