Hi,

I have a 80gb classic ipod. After a short period, I discovered that the amplifier within the pod was no good for recordings over 90db (Distortion/Clipping). I found a freeware program that analyzes recordings and adjusts accordingly to around 89db.

I have also invested in a pair of Etymotic ER4 Reference earplugs...and I have to say, I am impressed with the quality.

Ok, given what I have acheived, would the voyager be worth the purchase. Can the quality be that musc better?

Also, if I did (probably will) purchase a voyager, would I not then need reduce the recordings to 89db?

I look forward to any comments

Regards
....and another thing!!

Hi tomekay

I use the voyager every day with the 160GB classic ipod.  That's only partly because it's our demonstrator but mainly because it really is worth it.  You'll love the bass extension and, if you've got the volume limiter ipod model, you'll be able to get it a lot louder too.

We're currently looking at a dock connector-3.5mm jack lead too and have already tried a prototype with great sound results.  We'll be letting our customers know as soon as we have one ready for market.  Main advantage is that taking the output from the dock connector is a "line out" and therefore bypasses the volume limiter and output stage of the ipod.  Feed the Voyager with a good signal like this and you'll be amazed at the results.

Darren

Only you can decide that one.

There's a market for ipod-hi-fi out there definitely, assuming it exists (as hi-fi I mean) of course.  I can already see Graham reeling at words like "cd" so "ipod" probably means John C needs to call an ambulance and start CPR on him.  Poor chap!

If you start with cd and use lossless technologies, that means you're not losing anything doesn't it?   So what's on your ipod is effectively the same as your original cd?...

Assuming that to be true, If you then use a good ipod dock lead connector to your amp or, as some manufacturers (like Shanling), add an ipod dock to the amp itself for the ipod to sit upon, isn't that as good as using a cd source to your amp?  Doesn't a dock built into the amp mean shortest signal paths from source to amp therefore highest quality?

That Krell KID is big in the press at the moment and I think it's £1200 or so.  How much?  Someone obviously believes there is a market for it.

What do you all think?
