need some advise about a headphone set up.
i have a hi res player feeding a solo ultra linear,
just wondering if a could safely us a vacuum tube pre amp between these two to good effect or would this be a pre amp too far.
warm tubes plus pin sharp ultra linear.
advise would be most welcome.
thanks

Why fix what isn't broken?
I suspect it would be a preamp to far.

this is the problem, unfortunatly i prefer the sound of the preamp/tubeheadphone amp to the ultra linear for texture but the solo has the edge on ultimate resolution.
just trying to get the best of both worlds if possible.

Hi Michael,
In my experience a valve preamp would not enhance the sound, just produce a different sound, likely due to the added distortion. Graham's observations in investigating a valve preamp design is worth a read - see here: http://audio-forum.gspaudio.co.uk/gsp-preamp_topic2279_page29.html
Have you considered using a better DAC, such as the Bitzie or Majestic? Either of them will improve on the integrated DAC of HiRes players and match the SOLO perfectly.
Just listen, if it sounds good to you, enjoy it.
