Not so much flat, as diffuse.
 
I don't get any sense of a rigidly positioned instruments, rather a fluid mix with occasional sounds popping out to the forefront then disappearing back into the mix.
 
Exactly what you would expect actually, when you consider that 99% of commercial recordings are mult-tracked compositions with the spatial information purely the invention of a recording engineer twiddling knobs, rather than an accurate rendering of a real soundstage....

Not sure that is relevant; I just mentioned that I've never heard anything that even approaches some of the glowing descriptions of soundstaging some people like to spray around. Possibly it's me but I very much suspect that what I hear is what it sounds like and it's the glowing descriptions that are at fault. But I could be wrong of course ;-)

ive never driven a ferrari enzo, but im pretty sure that peoples descriptions of the experience of driving it are a lot better than the experince i have of driving my 1.0 corsa, or are they all liars, drunks or `sprayers`WinkWinkWink
