Looks slightly less pretty now: I dropped the sub platter on it, then it fell off an improvised jig and landed on the prongs of the plug. Still, I think the little dings add authenticity!

I'm about to re-plinth the PT. A friend makes custom picture frames - remarkably similar to plinth construction. I will copy the the Thorens plinth but use solid hardwood rather than veneered mdf. It may not have the same dimensional stability but it will resist dings and dents better.

No desire to enter an argument on this, but WRT the arm, I have heard similar comments about bass and Rega arms.
I have certainly heard that they are not a good match for Linns and on those many have found the Unipivot Naim Aro to be very good.
The much more affordable Roksan Nima is a Unipivot with the same base mounting dimensions as a Rega, if you are in experimental frame of mind it might be worth a try; as also might be some form of weight or clamp.
Whatever, have fun with it, sure looks purty.

~ snip ~

In the antique "manufacturing" trade that would be known as "distressing the piece" - chain and scrap iron in a bag or something similar being used - so I have been led to believe Wink

Have been giving thought to having a picture framer make me a nice perimeter frame something like the P25 sports for my hotrod P2 based deck.  Don't know if I will go for the genuine dropped on the floor look though LOL
